Question How is it even possible to gain four pounds in 24 hours?

I've been working very hard to lose weight for the past three weeks. I'm logging my progress, so I know I've been eating the right amount of calories to lose weight. I've also been exercising (cardio and strength training) several times per week for an hour each time. In addition to all of this, I've been doing the Jillian Michaels Cleanse and Burn, which has given me a lot of energy and makes me feel healthy.

Here is my problem: I've only managed to gain weight! I realize that strength training will cause me to gain weight because I'm building muscle, but I actually gained FOUR pound in 24 hours, and my clothing doesn't fit any better. I'm getting really frustrated and feel like giving up. Any suggestions? I should also mention that I just had a complete blood work-up done and I don't have any thyroid or other issues that could be impacting my weight loss. I've also been eating natural whole foods. Help please!!1

Scale error (especially if you didn't measure on the same scale) or water retention. I notice my wrists look a little puffy when I retain water.

Re: How is it even possible to gain four pounds in 24 hours?

Have you been eating really clean (like no sugar, no alcohol, no simple carbs) and then all of a sudden drank some alcohol or had something sugary or ate simple carbs? Your liver will load up on glycogen and store it, and it can store up to 5 lbs of glycogen. When you first go on a diet and lose a bunch of weight all of a sudden, it's your liver dumping glycogen. But you can gain it just as fast that way.

Thumbs up Re: How is it even possible to gain four pounds in 24 hours?

Try not to eat for 24 hours. Just drink plain water all day long. Minimum should be 2 liters of water.
