Why isnt this Diet Working?

Hey guys,
Im 21, Male, 242 Pounds and Trying to lose 60 or so Pounds within 7 months.
Basically im maintaining 1500 - 1700 Calories per day via two meals, such as Burritos with Lean Mince, Mushroomy Chicken With Wok Noodles, Jacket Potatoes, Mash Potatoes, Salads, Oven Chips once or twice a week Or Wedges, Simply fish and Steak 2 or 3 times a week.
Also eating healthy 'snacks' such as apples, Stawberries, Bannannas etc.

Ive been doing this for about 3 weeks now, maybe drinking a few Strongbow Ciders once a week, and Excercising once a week by Swimming for 30-45 Minutes, Weights for 15 Minutes and Other Cardio work such as Rowing etc. About an hour to an hour an half in total.

Weighed the Other day at like 4am lol, and i went from my original 244 Pounds, to 234 Pounds, but as ive been weighing almost every day, my weight seems to be ranging 238 - 242 , Thus i havent hardly lost anything, and im not sure why? Any ideas? Im getting enough Vitamins, Drinking lots of Diet/0 Cal Soft Drinks, and Water, as well as keeping the fats down and getting a decent amount of proteins etc.

Any ideas? :S

Re: Why isnt this Diet Working?

Oh BTW, Not sure what intake is required to maintain my weight, Some sources say its your weight x 14, another your weight x 12.

So based on 240 x 12 = 2880 Calories Per day, right?
So 20,160 a week or so.

I use an app and record everything i eat daily, and im at about 11,500 Calories for the last week, So 8600 Calories under for this week.

Should Equal 2.5 Pounds-ish Loss, right? :/

Re: Why isnt this Diet Working?

You need more exercise! Once a week isn't enough....3-4 times minimum. And you should be eatng something for breakast - even if just a plain piece of toast - to get your metabolism started. It isn't just about how many calories you eat either - it's what kind of calories. I don't see any green veggies in that diet and they are essential.
And you may not be eating enough calories and that will cause your body to burn muscle not fat.....and don't weigh every day...just once per week.....

Eating loads of Salad and Veg, including Cucumber, Lettuce, Broccoli, Sprouts, Peppers etc.
Also, i don't have time to go to the Gym 3-4 times a week lol, I thought eating the way i do would lose 2+ Pounds a week = My Goal ?
Thanks

I agree with titchou, skipping meals and even calorie restriction just leads to your body conserving energy and lowers your metabolism which is the opposite of what you need for weight loss. More exercise is the best way to raise it.

Re: Why isnt this Diet Working?

if you cant excercise more you will have to cut your calories
also you should only weigh yourself once a week preferabley at the same time
you should also try and eat at least 4 times a day

Then go jog for 20-30 minutes. I go to the gym 2 times a week and jog 4 days...the jog is 2 miles and takes about 22-24 minutes.

And eat more veggies - cooked ones - not salad stuff - green beans, squash, etc.....

Re: Why isnt this Diet Working?

If you feel your diet isn't working. You can do this.

Double the effort in doing exercise.
Take much lesser foods that can give you lots of calories.
Be a vegetarian.

Honestly, you will see the good result not only for 3 weeks. But it will take 2-3months.

First of all forget exercising, you have to do an extraordinary amount of activity to lose weight. Weighing 240 llbs you will be aggravating your joints and raising your blood pressure. You can do lots more exercise when you are 185 llbs and do them more safely and with greater effect.
Next, no more soft or cola drinks, bad for you and expensive. No more Burritos, the same with mushroomy chicken and wok noodles whatever that might be. Forget any potatoes especially oven chips. Fish 6oz a serving 2 times a week and chicken grilled once a week. No bananas. Lots of vegetables of different colours, half cooked and half raw and fruit, little or no fruit juice. Almost forgot the beans, pinto, white, red and mixed coloured lentils. Buy them all dry, they are cheap and full of protien. Make lots of soup.
I suspect your calorie intake is away higher than you think.
Eat the right way then exercise and by age 22 you will be lean and ripped!!
James
