Sounds like you were in the fortunate majority that develop symptoms but otherwise will be alright. The most susceptible to the effects are the very young and very old, because of weaker immune systems.
After infection of the WN virus, it can progress from fever and further on to West Nile neuroinvasive disease. A few years ago, we used to call this meningo-encephalitis until adopting the neuroinvasive disease terminology. (If I remember correctly, it was at the 2003 or 2004 CDC-hosted annual West Nile Conference in Denver when the push was made to change terminology).
Anyway, back to your question, I have not aware of cases where the virus has affected the cardiovascular system--only neurological as far as I am aware.
