| Re: Really bad bites!
Hi there. You probably know by now if you got WNV or not, but I decided to answer anyway. I had WNV in 2005 with Meningitis diagnosed with blood test.
It takes at least a couple of weeks after a bite to develop symptoms and severity of the bite doesn't imply if its an infected mosquito or not.
Some WNV symptoms that are pretty unique are eye pain, it feels like your eye balls are going to pop out of your head and light pink spots that start spreading over your body. The spots don't itch and aren't raised. Photophobia (light sensitivity ). Thats all in addition to (in my case) severe headache, neck pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, trembling and tremors, body aches, back pain, leg pain and sleeping alot.
However....alot of people who get WNV never even know they've had it because they either develop a very mild case or no symptoms at all. It ranges from no symptoms to worst case scenario, death is fairly rare.
There is a simple blood test for WNV. You have to have been infected for at least 2 weeks before it will show in your blood.
I am now a big fan of mosquito spray!
