My best friend took Provera (?) twice. She started, but I don't know when. She was also very emotionally unstable.

I'm not sure about when. I think after, but I'm not positive.

And yes, it was the hormones in the pills that made her emotional. Basically, she had really bad PMS symptoms for almost the entire time.

I have taken progesterone (aka provera) pills on several occasions in order to induce a period (I don't have them on my own) Usually I take 10 pills then get a period 3-4 days later. I have had no adverse effects from these pills, though I am fairly sensitive to medications (often get migraines, etc.) Basically the PMS symptoms were like they would be any other time.

I have to take them now & then as my periods have been so irregular. I am 42 now and have had this problem starting at age 39. I have only taken them 3 times. I took all 10 and the 12th day I started. I had just a regular period. No side effects.

They told me it was normal for me "because of my age"! I felt like hitting the nurse. It probably is true but I didn't need to hear that. I was also told that 10-12 weeks is as long as they want me to go between periods w/o having one. So at 12 weeks if I haven't started then I do take the meds.

The only thing that I wonder is if this is my body doing the natural thing of slowing down on how many cycles I have each year or the span of time in between then why would I want to take meds. to "make" me start? I am a little confused on that issue. I feel like this is the lead in for me to menopause. Hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, etc. Why take medicine to stop my body from doing somwething naturally?
