General cleanliness of "down there"...what to use? - Women's Health Message Board

I have always used regular soap to wash "down there" even tho people say you shouldnt. Ive recently had cystitis which Ive learned can be caused by using too much soap down there. So now I am reluctant to use soap but if you cant use soap then what can you use??!!! Is there a specific kind of soap you can use for that area?

I have no idea. I am not a genius, but I use soap, but only on the outside, and quickly was it off. Maybe I am not suppose to, but to be very honest with you, I have never heard that you were not suppose to. I have had no problems.

I, like you, would have to ask the same question?

You don't need anything more than plain water to wash the area. Yes soap and bubble bath etc can often cause UTI's as well as vaginal infections. The vaginal area is self cleansing so just rinse aka wash well with water only. Also stay away from feminine deodorant sprays too.
