Question Unusual Vaginal Discharge & pH

Okay, I posted on here a LONG time ago about a problem I was having. For at least 5 years I have had a heavy, colored, smelly discharge. I've been treated for everything with every antibiotic available, by many different doctors. The last doctor, who I really like, is determined to fix me, because it is NOT normal! She gave me some antibiotics to use while waiting for the results of the culture, which again didn't work. She also didn't find ANYTHING on my culture...I'm literally infection free. BUT! She tested my vaginal pH and found that I was VERY basic(opposite of acidic, which the vagina needs). So, she's having me do a vinegar/water douche to balance the pH. I guess this imbalance has cause erosion on my cervix which in turn creates more discharge.

I'm curious as to if anyone has had experience with this at all. I find it hard to believe that I can douche a couple times and have it be fixed. I am so DESPERATE to get rid of this because I have to wear a pantyliner EVERY DAY or it ruins my underwear and becomes uncomfortable. It also make me feel quite unattractive. I'm also beginning to believe its the cause of discomfort during sex...perhaps the imbalance causes me to be more dry?

Any advice/comments/suggestions would be very helpful. I've literally tried everything. Just waiting to see if this vinegar douche thing will help!

Sorry to hear that you have gone through so much. Some doctors just arent sympathetic or helpful and it just leaves you feeling totally frustrated. I have been through it all with my doctor and with specialists. Leaves me feeling that if i dont do my homework and find the facts on the net and tell my doctor what to do he would be totally clueless!!

As for your vinegar douching, yes i've heard of that and i was actually told to do that by a specialist once, but after doing some research on the net i also found out that the vinegar douching is best during half your cycle, but using plain soda water is advisable for the other half, due to acid levels in the vagina changing depending on the stage of your cycle. If this new doctor is trying to help you out with different ways then do as your doc says b/c it may just work for you.

Have you had any tests done to check for cervicitis. I ask this b/c i was talking to my doctor recently after tests for a change in my discharge and all tests had come up clear for me, but during a pap smear it was noted that my cervix was enflamed. My doctor then told me about cervicitis. I'm going to get checked out for that now, just to be on the safe side. Seems like anything to do with vaginal health is a never ending issues!!!!

Let us know if the vinegar douching works for you, hope it does

I've posted on here a bizillion times, long ago, I was convinced I always had a yeast infection even though I didn't have the normal symptoms. I would just have the swollen red burning feeling. Intercourse would be hell. But this wouldn't last long. A day or two then it would disappear and the reappear a week or two weeks or even three weeks later. Every time I'd go to the doctor, it wasn't a yeast infection.

Now what is weird is my 8 year daughter gets this too, since she's been about 3, but I've never put the two together.

Last time I went I saw the Nurse Practitioner, she told me to douche with vinegar/water....so I tried for the first time today. Then I read it and it says not to do 3 days before a pelvic exam/pap smear, oops, mine is Thursday. When I go Thursday I am going to be very insistant on them looking at this more closely. Because it doesn't bother me ALL the time I've let it go, but I want answers. I worry how the future will be for my daughter.

Sorry I know I rambled. I hope you get this cured. No one should have to live like this!! Keep us posted on how the vinegar/water douche works for you!!

I have been checked for cervicitis and was told once that I had it, but this was by the doctor that refused to treat me. I've also been told I have BV, yeast infections, Strep B, etc... I've been tested for STDs twice this year. My partner(both monogamous and each other's firsts) was treated also.

The current OBGYN said she found NO trace of any infection in my whatsoever. I did the douche last night and still have the discharge---I know I shouldn't expect instant results, but how long should it take? I will call my gyno later this week if nothing improves, and see if she wants me to do it more than once a month.

I posted this on the Women's Sexual Health Board also, and was told to eat lots of acidic forming foods, but I already eat lots of the foods she listed. I just feel so negative about everything, because nothing has worked in the past 3 or 4 years.

I KNOW its not normal. My gyno said it IS normal, for me, and my situation, but that I shouldn't have to deal with it. It's literally clumps of white, yellow or brown discharge that is pliable after drying for a bit. It doesn't smell pleasant either. Sorry for the nasty picture
