Unhappy Anyone with anxiety from hormonal imbalance?

I'm 39 and in March started having hot flashes and night sweats. I thought it was funny and laughed it off. I asked my doctor to put me on the pill to "even me out". Well, all I got for that was a terribly heavy and long period, anxiety and depression, and a trip to a specialist.

He took me off the pill which stopped the period. The anxiety and depression seemed to go away until May. In the meantime I read about saliva testing for hormones. I had that done and it came back that my progesterone was low and estrogen was low normal. I've been working with my doctor and a natural compounding pharmacist to get my hormones regulated. I take Biest (estrogen) the whole month and Progest (progesterone)the last two weeks. My anxiety/depression did not get any better and now I seeing a psychiatrist and taking medication to help me cope.

Has anyone else been through this? Does it take a few months for the hormones to get back into kilter? Could there eventually be an end to my anxiety???? Thanks!

I haven't been through this myself, but my sister deals with it. I recommend a book called "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause." Its available at most bookstores, and online as well. It has great info for this stuff, and a lot of natural remedies.

I also think it can take a few months for things to get back to normal. Hang in there.

After my son was born I began having severe panic attacks. It took them forever to find out that I had elevated progesterone. Some docs say that's the cause of the panic disorder, while others believe I truely have a chemical imbalance. I say it's my hormones. I actually have to take BCP to lower my progesterone...which I feel a lot better, but I did start taking Paxil as well. I don't know which one is working, but I plan to wean myself off the Paxil within the next few months. I'll let you know what happens. Good luck to you!!!

All I can say is that "stuff" the pharmacist mixes up with estogen and progesteron(sp) made me into a raving lunatic!I thought I was losing my mind!I stayed on them for two weeks till my Husband asked me if they might be causing my crazy behavior.I flushed them and called a good GYN and got in and she put me on premarin and I have been feeling great mentally and physically ever since.

Hello Namjab,

I would suggest that you and your wife check out a website for menopause. It is at www.power-surge.com.
Also, Dr. Elizabeth Vilet has two great books - "Screaming to Be Heard" and "It's My Ovaries, Stupid." These have been very helpful. Good luck
