I'm on the pill, and when I'm on my period week, I usually don't take the inactive tablets. Does this affect me in anyway? Do these pills do anything other than help you remember to keep taking the pills at the same time every day?
Hello. No. The inactive/placebo/reminder pills are there for nothing more than to remind you when to start taking the active pills again.
Some pills come in a 21 day pack. You take the pills the same and still have the same 7 day break, you just don't have the pills available to remind you when to start back again.
A couple months ago, for some reason, I decided to skip my sugar pills just to see what would happen..and sure enough, the week after my period I had breakthrough bleeding. Since then, I have been taking my sugar pills!
You don't have to SWALLOW your sugar pills, you can simply throw them in the trash each night when you'd normally take them. If you skip the sugar pills all together and go directly to an active pack of pills, you'll either skip your period all together, or have some spotting/breakthrough bleeding (which is what the above poster was talking about).
