Do you mean Bacterial Vaginitis or yeast infections? They are treated in different ways. For BV your doctor will give you an antibiotic, which in turn may give you a yeast infection once the BV is cleared, due to the antibiotics. Very frustrating!!!!
I've only ever had BV once in my life. I got it at the start of this year and i'm 36. My doctor seems to think BV is more to do with hygiene, which i don't understand as my hygiene, i think, is good and the fact i've never had BV till 36 yrs of age. I think i may have done something differently and so caused the BV.
Now yeast infections i've had loads of experience with and while doctors and specialists kept telling me to use over the counter creams/pessaries i basically kept getting thrush over and over again for about 3 years to the point where i felt i had no quality of life. Luckily i found, by accident, a terrific doctor who treats allergies. He put me on a VERY strict diet, excluding certain foods like the previous poster mentioned. I was also put on a good quality multi vitamin, acidophilous powder and given some pills to take orally to combat the overgrowth of candida in my stomach.
If you are doing all the right things and your sexual partner is not repeatedly reinfecting you, then using creams/pessaries vaginally isn't a cure. You need to be prescribed something which will kill it in your stomach.
I've been yeast free for about 5 years now and only had it this year after i took the antibiotics for the BV. I do however eat ONLY natural yogurt with the live cultures, i take the acidophilous capsules (when i remember), i take a garlic capsule as it helps too, drink lots of water, limit my breads, sweets, sugars, don't take baths but shower instead, i don't use soap directly on my privates, wear cotton underwear (love them cotton hipsters

) no talcum powder down there, i do wear fitted clothing at times, but not tooooo tight as to rub hard and irritate the crotch area.....oh yeah, i found certain lubes made me itchy etc and condoms too, also washing right after having sex helped a lot.
Hope some of this info helps. Try doing a search using keywords on here. Vaginal health issues etc are always being raised on here and some people have given terrific info and help over time. You should read some of that. Best of luck
