Hi everyone,

I hope someone can help me or knows for sure.

I am on the birth control Pill Diane-35. Just yesterday I started taking antibiotics (Cephalexin 500mg) for an infection and I am to continue them for 5 days.

This morning I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend, and have only just remebered that antibiotics may decrease the reliability of the pill.

My question is: is it very likely that I could get pregnant from this morning's romp? I only started the antibiotics yesterday, so this would not have been enough time for my body to start ovulating would it?? And thats assuming the antibiotics have already begun to decrease the pill's effectiveness?
Of course I will use condoms from now on until 7 days after I finish the antibiotics.

Please offer your knowledge, and how likely you think it could be! I get rather stressed about these things.

I did a little quick internet search on your antibiotic and it turns up that most sources say it is possible that it can interact with the pill, but there are no long term studies to prove this. It could possibly decrease the effectiveness of the pill. I'd first suggest that you map out your cyclen, and find out if this is your 'fertile' time. If you've been taking your birth control correctly, you probably aren't going to magically ovulate the second you take your antibiotics. So, overall, i don't think you have a chance of becoming pregnant. I'd highly suggest that when you have sex while you're on this drug that you use a condom.

im sure if it was just the first day of the meds youll be fine..i was on amoxicillion for about ten days and had sex with my fiance unprotected -something i really shouldnt have done- but everything went fine i wasnt late nothing was abnormal

but you said safe sex up to 7 days after your meds are done...when i was on antibotics my dr said safe sex till one week into my new pill pack

Same kinda thing happened with me and I did NOT get pregnant....SO I doubt you are. Just make sure to take a pregnancy test if your period does not start! This past year I was USING condoms and I DID get pregnant! I was so scared at first....but now that my baby is born it is sooooo wonderful! I was so upset when I found out I was pregnant...but now I am in heaven and loving being a mom to a beautiful new person. So, no matter what I am sure all things will work out for the best. Please try not to worry sweetie!
