is frequent urnation a symptom of the pill? Im taking ortho-clylen...or something like that.

Also, how long does it take for the pill to fully kick in?

I was just talking to my girlfriend last night who swears that since she's started taking her pill (yasmin) she's been peeing all the time. it takes about a week to be fully covered (although my doctor recommended to use backup for one month to be extra careful)

Yasmin does infact cause a woman to need to pee more often. I'm not totally sure why, though. I don't believe ortho-cyclen or ortho-tri-cyclen cause a woman to need to pee more, it's not a normal side effect, but it's possible that it could. I pee constantly, everything goes through my system very quickly so if i have a lot of liquids during the day, i pee a lot.

If you started the pill on the first day of your period. You are automatically protected under the pill. If you started the pill the sunday after your period started, you need to wait a week before the pill is effective. If you started the pill on a random day, not a day you were on your period, you need to use a back up for at least two weeks, but to be safe, probably a month.

I took ortho cyclen for almost 6 years and never experienced this. I have friends who still take it, and they never had this problem either.

Yasmin can do that to you because it contains a diuretic which is a substance that makes you go to the bathroom more often(the frequency depends on the strenght of the diuretic).

If you have any other symptoms besides frequent urination be sure to get checked for a UTI. Frequent urination can be a sign of a UTI or something else so watch it closely as left untreated a UTI could spread to your bloodstream or kidneys.
