I had my son when I was 19 years old. Before that my periods where normal although I would go months without having them, but there was no pain, I could never tell when I was getting them and they would last 4-5 days. After I had my son everything started to change. My periods became extremely painful where at times I would fall to the floor it would get so bad. I would feel nauseous throughout the whole thing, and the amount of blood was unbelieveable. Before my son I would go through 5-6 tampons a day, after him I was going through 10-12 a day. This is three years after my son was born and it still the same. I have seen so many different doctors about it but they just say nothing is wrong with me. The last doc I saw said he thought it was endometrosis but he wasen't going to test me(laproscopy) until I wanted to have kids again. This does not help me at all. I am going to see another specialist soon, Is there anything that I can do to convince him to give me a laproscopy?
Am I just crazy? Is it really just all in my head?
Oh by the way, my grandmother and mother both have endometrosis.

Hi, I think maybe you should see another doctor and ask whether they think this test would be appropriate. I don't believe I have endometrosis, but I did have something vaguely similar to you: my periods were light and completely painless until I was 19 (they started when I was 13) and then suddenly I found I got cramps, mood swings, upset stomachs and very very heavy bleeding. Sometimes my periods last for 8 days now - I had one that lasted for 11 - and I do lose a lot of blood. I have no idea what set off this same change. My mother had the same problem but found it was eased by taking the contraceptive pill and then by having children. My sister doesn't suffer so badly but has been on the Pill since she was 17.

So yeah if you're concerned, absolutely I would ask this doctor for the test or consult another one. You have a family history of endometrosis and you are obviously suffering discomfort -it isn't worth suffering over, get a test. Is there a treatment they can give you if it IS diagnosed as e.?

It's probably not wise to talk a doctor into doing a procedure he really doesn't want to do. Find another doctor who know endo. I have found in my long battle with endo that really very few doctors really even know much about the disease. Start searching for a specialist...even if it is out of town, it is worth it.
