Question due for an exam,no insurance?

I live in DC.Just started a new job and can get health insurance from my company after 6 months.I was supposed to go for an annual exam in january 2003.Couldn't go can't afford it and also i had to get off the bC.I don't know where to go for help,i don't have $250-300 to pay.I had cervical pre cancer in feb.2002 and had the coloposcopy done.Don't know if it returned and my period is really bad,i feel like i'm going to die every time i get it.Please any advice is welcome.I applied at Blue Cross they rejected me cause of the pre-cancer,i don't know why.i paid the bills on time and everytime.I need some help

If you go to your local county health department they will give you an exam and BC for free. Or, if you go to ANY planned parenthood, the same applies but I think they charge you like 15 dollars or something. I am not familiar with the DC area but you can go to planned parenthood's website and find a clinic near you. I think it is www.plannedparenthood.org. If not, just type it into a search engine.

Insurance is always a pain but I would keep applying. Another site that is helpful is www.einsurance.com and they will give you a bunch of plans and let you apply online. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Re: due for an exam,no insurance?

When I had no insurance I went to a county health clinic. They did my annual exam for $65 (becasue I was from a different county) In county was ony $10. Please try something like this in your area. I wish I could send you any amount of money it would take for you to get your exam. I have CIN I pre cancer issues too, and know how important those exams are.

Re: due for an exam,no insurance?

The reason Blue Cross turned you down had nothing to do with you paying your bills on time - it was because of the pre-existing condition. Most insurance companies will reject a new applicant with a pre-existing condition, or at the very least not actually 'cover' them for the first three months to make sure they're 'OK' and not going to run up an astronomical medical bill. Insurance companies are more than happy to insure a healthy human being, but someone who already has a condition (pre-existing) runs the risk of having expensive medical procedures that the insurance company doesn't want to be responsible for. Same thing for someone who is already covered and then suddenly has a bypass or some other medical emergency - first time you're even one day late with a payment, they'll cancel you on the spot as you are now considered high risk and they no longer wish to have you on their policy. Since they can't cancel you for being sick, they'll simply wait until they can do it legetimately, and first late payment gives them that right. In your case, they may agree to give you insurance after a waiting period, but you would have to ask about that and see what the conditions are.

You do really need to see a doctor though, if only for a simple pap test and nothing more. As the above posters said, there are clinics and places where you can go to be tested either for free or based on what you can afford. On the plus side, cervical cancer is very slow growing so you are probably just fine even with an abnormal pap test, but please get in to see someone as soon as you can, ok? Take care.
