Question Tampon vs Pad @ 13 yrs old

My brother is a single parent with a daughter who just turned 13 and started her period on Friday. Today he called asking me if she should be allowed to use tampons. I know I hated pads but didn't remember how old I was when I started using tampons. Any moms out there have any suggestions?

I don't see any reason why she shouldn't be allowed to use them. I wish I had when I first started. And once I started using them I refused go back to pads. They're horrible.

I'm not a mom either, but if the girl wants to use tampons, then she should use them. When i first started menstruating, i was scared of using tampons so i used pads. When i first wore a pad i cried because it felt like a diaper. Soon after, i began to wear tampons and they were much more comfortable.

Nowadays they're making really skinny tampons, aimed to help younger girls get more comfortable with the idea of using them. The main brands such as Playtex and Tampax both make a slim fitting tampon. Also, one with a plastic applicator will make it easier and (in my opinion) more comfortable to insert. Good luck.

Hi there, I just wanted to say that my daughter has not started her period yet but to get her informed we looked at her different options on the internet by surfing for brand name pads and tampons. After reading up on her 2 options she decided for now (when she starts) that she is going to go the pad route.
I left the decision up to her. She might change her mind when the time comes but that really helped for her to be more informed.
