Do periods get worse as you get older?? I need some help

Hi there,
I really need some help and I hope someone out there can give me some answers. I started my period at 13 and I am now 20. I am not sexually active. I have always had period pain but I usually just take a panadol and use a hot pack and it was all fine. But lately my periods have been getting worse each time they come. It started off a couple of months ago and I started getting diarrhoea with them.( I know that is completely normal) but nowthe pains have been getting worse and worse. last time I had my period, I had really bad diarrhoea, constipation and really sharp cramps in my pelvic area and back. I couldn't hardly go to the toilet because it hurt so much, and I could hardly sleep because the pains kept waking me up. It only lasts 2 days but those 2 days are absolutely awful!! It just seems with every period, the pains are worse. I am just wondering, how do you know when to go to a doctor?? they will probably just say it's normal period pain! but I really worried because I have never had pain this bad before. do periods get worse as you get older? I have also been getting these twinges of pain after my period too. Any replies are greatly appreciated!

It's probably best that you see a gynecologist, and get in the habit of going for a yearly visit if you don't already.

Do periods get worse as you get older? Well, some will say yes, some will say no; it all depends on the individual.

Best thing for you to do is to go in for an exam and get checked out. If you're in that much pain every month, perhaps the doctor can diagnose why, but certainly nobody here can.

I'm 48 and have had two kids. Periods are never something I look forward to, and are definitely not pain free. I've found that if I take some ibuprofin and stay physically active, I'm not in that much pain at all. But that's just me.

Good luck!
