Re: Post Tubal Ligation and no period for MONTHS

I think you should really call your gyno. I had my tubes tied after the birth of my second daughter and as soon as I was done breast feeding my periods became regular again. How long ago were your tubes tied? Are you breastfeeding still? That can cause you to skip your periods. If you have not breastfed in a few months, then other than the normal stressors like not eating, extreme weight loss, severe stress, ect., I can't see a reason why you'd not be having your periods. A tubal ligation does not cause your period to stop, so something is up, but it's probably something simple and easily fixed.

Re: Post Tubal Ligation and no period for MONTHS

Hi Julie
I have an appointment tomorrow with him. I don't even remember when I last had my period but I am willing to guess it was Aug. or even prior to that. My tubes were done in Dec. following the birth of my daughter. I bf for 5 days because the milk never came in. I am overweight but have not been over eating or changed my eating habits really.
Any idea what he will do to check? Like I said I took to home preg. tests back in probably sept/oct area and they were negative.
Thanks for your help.
Carmaanne

Re: Post Tubal Ligation and no period for MONTHS

Sorry to hear about what you are going through. Are you having any other symptoms? I am guessing he will do a blood test for pregnancy. Then, he may try putting you on Provera to jump start your period. If you aren't pg the remote possibility I thought I would mention is that I have heard that getting a tubal can cause the ovaries to shut down. It would seem even more unlikely since you did have periods in the beginning. Good luck with your doctor visit. If you don't get a good answer, try looking for secondary amenhorrea online. I think I spelled that right. Sorry if I didn't.

Re: Post Tubal Ligation and no period for MONTHS

Dear Carmaanne

I had a tubal ligation after my third child at the age of 33,12 months later my periods suddenly stopped , a pregnancy test was negative, so the doc sent me for a scan on my ovaries. I was told i had small cysts but not big enough to cause my periods to stop. So the doc said i had premature menopause with no explanation or counselling. I have been on HRT for 15 years.

What did the doctor finally say? I'm having the same exact thing happen to me!

Re: Post Tubal Ligation and no period for MONTHS

Hi
I just started bleeding again after 15 years, so doc sent me for ultrasound and endometrial biopsy both of which were fine, then i had thermal ablation that hasen't worked. I think the bleeding was linked to having to take steroids for another condition. The conclusion the doc came to was abnormal bleeding with no apparent cause. I didn't think you could start periods again like that particularly as i was diagnosed by a menopause specialist
