Vasectomy vs tubal.

Hi, here's the situation. I believe that the person who absolutely does not want anymore children should have the necessary procedure done whether it be vas. or tubal.
If both people are on the fence than the man should have a vas. because the woman DID go through childbirth.
However in my specific situation, I would not be a good candidate for surgery(heart cond.) so I really believe it is my husbands duty to have a vasectomy. He doesn't want anymore children so thats not an issue, but he is terrified of the procedure. He has a couple buddies that have "never been the same since". Some have had problems, some were sore for weeks. I don't want DH to be tortured but I think he's being a big baby. Can anyone give me any info on their DH's experiences with vas. Is it often complicated, or excessively painful? I don't want to be guilted into having surgery when I am high risk. (My cardiologist said I could have the surgery but it would be much safer for DH).

BTW I would have posted this under mens topics but I figured I'd get a more honest reply from the women.

Thanks, Abbygirl

Re: Vasectomy vs tubal.

My hubby had a vas after our third child. He said he'd rather have another vas than go to the dentist!! NO big deal! Sure he was sore--for maybe a couple of days. That's been more than paid off with the uninhibited sex we can now have! No more "Am I late???" or "Did it leak?" or "Just a minute..." Once the "gun" is no longer loaded the anxiety goes right out of sex and it's just plain fun! He's never felt any side effects, had any resulting complications, or felt any less manly. It's definitely been a big boost to our sex life! Bribe him with that--I don't know any guys who would refuse more sex!!!

Re: Vasectomy vs tubal.

Well, here's a man opinion anyway. The two procedures don't even compare with degree of danger and discomfort. He gets a local and you get general anesthesia. Your heart condition puts you out of the running as far as I'm concerned because this is, after all, elective surgery. Is he really willing to lose you on the operating table to avoid a few days of sore testicles?

He gets a small incision in his scrotum. You get two incisions that go through your abdominal muscles. A much more painful recovery.

When my wife and I were looking at this we made the decision on purely financial grounds. My insurance didn't cover the vas, and hers paid for all but $100 of the tubal. The anesthesia made her nauseous for a week. Her discomfort during the next six weeks made me regret the decision the save a few hundred dollars. My BIL & SIL took one look at our results and made the appointment for HIM when the time came. He said he would do anything to be rid of condoms.

Since then I've gotten to know several guys that have had it done and none have long term effects. Yup, they were sore for up to a week. I PERSONALLY feel that guys that don't feel the same afterward have other issues than physical ones down in "Man Land". The freedom from worry about BC lets most people be more relaxed when it comes time for sex. It becomes all about love, intimacy and fun.

thanks, and I appreciate the man's point of view, that will be very helpful.

Re: Vasectomy vs tubal.

My hubby had always said he would never get a vas. We had 3 sons and I had them natural because I was afraid of the epidural needle..lol. I decided to have my tubes tied so I had my pre-op stuff done and was supposed to show up the next morning to have it done. Well, I chickened out. My hubby finally made the decision to get the vas and let me tell you, besides the kids, that is the best thing in the world that he could have ever done for me. He had it done one day, layed around the next day for 1/2 day and that was it. He did not have any problems for it. It has been 10 years now!! Good luck.
