Unhappy Help with my daughters periods...

I'm hoping someone can help me out here...my daughter will be 14 yrs. old come this May...she started getting her period last year at 13...it's just starting to now get heavy and she's complaining of cramps much more now and she is saying that they are very heavy and she has some clotting also...I was reading thru some of these postings and I'm wondering what I should do about this...should I make her take some vitamins? Go to the OBGYN? I don't want her to be put on the pill yet as she's only gonna be 14...(I don't need any of that) Any advice or suggestions you have is greatly appreciated

Re: Help with my daughters periods...

She may NEED to be on the pill to straighten her out. I was put on the pill at 14 years old b/c of cysts on my ovaries. It helped my pain and regulated my periods for me.
I'm 23 now but I thank God for those pills when I was younger. Even though it was a hassle to take that pill every day.
I'd take her to the obgyn is I were you, just to be safe.
In that situation, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Re: Help with my daughters periods...

Hi! I would take your daughter to the obgyn. If nothing else, she can tell the doc her symptoms. I'm not sure if they would recommend bc though. When I told my gyn about clotting, I thought she was going to burst something! She immediately took me off my pills and told me not to use the ones I still had. I don't know if that was just mine or not. Oh, yeah...one more thing to add. If and when you do take her, make sure the doc does tests. Some gyns might look at your daughter's menstrual history and assume that her body's just adjusting (since she hasn't had a period very long.) Good luck!

Re: Help with my daughters periods...

I read on a women's health site on the net, that this is common in young girls. That it is hormonal and normal. That she could have clotting and heavy periods for several years until her hormones settle down.

I took my teenage daughter to the pediatrician about her irregular periods and she told me not to put her on birth control. That her body would get used to being on the pills and would forget how to ovulate on its own and she would end up with fertility problems. Later when I took her for her first visit to the Gynecologist and she suggested the pill, I told her what the pediatrician said. She was a resident doctor and said that she never heard of the pill causing fertility problems. I decided to listen to the pediatrician and not take any chances. (I have no idea which doctor was right.)

I think your worrying for nothing to be honest...
Your daughter is young and her body is changing like absolute crazy, trying to adjust to the new changes.
I dont think she really needs the pill right now.
I think its quite normal and in a couple of years, she will notice a difference.
But if u really are concerned, then see a doctor.
I think us women worry too much about our period..
Goodluck
