Pap smears DO NOT detect STD's. They are done to detect cervical cellular changes. Although, they can detect cervical cellular damage caused by STD's. You can have a whole slew of STD's and have a clean pap. The best, and usually most accurate, test for STD's is usually the old fashioned blood test, although HPV cannot be detected through a blood test! That can only be diagnosed through a visible wart or biopsied tissue.
