Spotting could be due to many things:
1) Friable cervix (fancy medical term for inflammed or infected) which bleeds on contact. The penis often bumps into the cervix during sex, thus the spotting after sex.
OR
2) Implantation bleed. Sometimes when a fertilized egg implants into the uterine lining there's a little blood.
3) Midcycle bleeding can also be due to ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, etc.
Miscarriage is doubtful. Usually accompanied by lotsa clots and heavy cramping. Wait two weeks and do a urine pregnancy test. They're pretty accurate these days.
