mood swings and the pill?? need info. - Women's Health Message Board

I've been taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen for about 9 months now and I've noticed that since I 've been on it... my moods are constantly changing. My boyfriend and I even argue now. We never argued before. I've noticed, also... that I take things more personally when people say stuff and I get mad alot easier. I used to be a calm person, but now I can fly off the handle. One minute, I'll be in a good mood, and the next I'll want to punch something. I control the mood swings and depression as best as I can, but I really don't like being or feeling this way... the question is... how can I get it to stop? I know I could change pills because I was thinking about getting on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo because it has a lower dose of hormones, but with it being a lower dose... does that mean less mood swings? Also, another question... since I've been on the pills... I get hot flashes constantly. Is that normal? Thanks for everything and any replies with info. are greatly appreciated.

I have tried many different bcp trying to regulate my cycle. I have major moods and irritation, and i am not nice to be around. I am generally very quiet... but when i am on a bcp i am a terrer. One made we weepy. The last one i tried, Seaonale made me very sick, and irritable. I am just now getting through its side effects. It was hard to be around myself. My husband and i will be so glad when it it out of my system.

I'm taking yasmine (new to it)..First two days I was fine-Then it hit me like a ton of bricks...I feel like I'm going to cry all over myself, and feel really depressed. I'm also pritty paranoid about things, which I hear is very normal on the pill...it all comes and goes, but when it comes it's a little hard to deal. It came while I was at work today and I did not know what to do-I had to suck it up and work even though I felt so down. I just wanted to go home and climb into bed...

It's weird how it comes and goes, one minuate I'm fine and the next I'm in total misery...

I had been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for a year (2000), and my mood swings were so horrible. I was practically a MONSTER just like what the others described above. Finally I decided to stop taking Ortho, and my husband couldn't believe how much I had changed as soon as I stopped. I felt a lot better. I can't remember what brand of BCP I was on last summer (2003). I took it to delay my period for my Cancun vacation, and it didn't affect my moods. I guess I was taking it for only 2 months. With our upcoming Jamaican vacation, I am now taking Necon 1/35 and will be on it for 6 months. I am now on the 2nd month of this, and so far so good. I think it depends on the brand of BCP that affects you. I now know that Ortho isn't good for me. You may want to experiment different brands until you hit a right one.

I've been alot of BCPs -- ones that didn't work: OrthoTri and OrthoTri Lo, both made me a crying mess, Yasmin was good at first, but then I became emotion-less, had no libido and felt generally unhappy everyday; Lo-Ovral, gained weight; Estrostep FE, I really liked, had little-no side effects and my libido came back. I'm now on Seasonale and I really like it. My moods are pretty stable, energy good, so far, I like it. Good luck, it is awful trying to find the right one!
