Here's the short answer:
First, you should know that estrogen and progesterone are steroids. That doesn't make them bad (don't confuse natural hormones such as these with the nasty synthetic versions) but it does make them susceptible to stimulants. Caffeine is a stimulant. Ergo, caffeine (which is NOT only in coffee, but many black and herbal teas as well as chocolate and many sodas) can stimulate steroid production and in some women, voila! You get ovarian cysts.
