Going to a lower dose birth control - Women's Health Message Board

I was wondering if anyone has switched to a lower dose pill due to side effects and if your side effects went away. I was on desogen for about nine months and started microgestin two weeks ago. It only has 20mcg of estrogen. I don't feel a difference yet. How long does it take before the side effects of desogen go away? Any help because I am so confused.

I went from Ortho tricyclen to Loestrin 1.5/30 (same as microgestin 1.5/30), but I took 2 months off of pills in between, so I don't really know there. But then I went from Loestrin 1.5/30 down to Loestrin 1/20 which wasn't quite as significant of a drop, and I would say it took me about 2-3 months for my body to get used to the new stuff and calm down.

Give it a couple of months....the changes are so gradual that it will probably take that long for you to notice, but they're happening!

Thanks for you response. It is so weird becuase I can feel my hormones are out of whack. i was taking desogen, which had 30 mcg of estrogen and that pill really screwed me up. My doctor just kept telling me it wasn't the pill, but then I talked to so many other girls who had the same thing. I am taking the generic of loestrin 1/20. Can I ask you if you experience less side effetcs with the loestrin? Did you switch to a lower one to reduce the side effect? Thank you
