Hi, i hope someone can help me... my mother has had irregular periods.......for instance she will have her regular period then a couple of days later she gets spotting or light periods.... this really worries me i tell her to go to the doctor but she refuses telling me that nothing hurts...... I hope this is something that has to do with menopause since she is 47... i saw this forum and hope that maybe someone out there will read this and help me ease this stress that is driving me crazy..... she means the world to me....... please help

She could be in perimenopause. She should get the book by Ann Louise Gittleman, called "Before the Change". Irregular periods are a symptom.

Also this can be a symptom of cancer. If this persists for more than 2 months, I would see a doctor. I know she says that nothing hurts, but better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks for responding, i really hope it is menopause.... Does it matter if there is no family history in cancer ??... Thanks for taking the time to respond to my question.

I have had irregular periods for a number of years and i am 34 years old. My doctor has done a ton of tests and i show no signs of any cancer. I have had problems with ovarian cysts and i don't know if this is at any way connected.
Stress, diet and exercise are common causes of irregular periods but i still think she should go to the doctor and get checked because the sooner a doctor catches a problem the easier it is to treat it.
