| BV or just normal?
I have had excessive fishy/ammonia discharge as long as I remember, I have very good vaginal hygiene, don’t use soaps or anything else chemical around my vagina/vulva, I wash every day, I use a menstrual cup, I wear white cotton panties, no underwear to bed, organic toilet paper, in fact the only thing that I do which could effect vaginal health in a negative way is that I wear jeans.
I am also on hormonal birth control, however even when off birth control I still had this issue occurring, so this has been ruled out as a cause of the problem.
I had my first swabs done when I was 16, which told me I have bacterial vaginosis, previously I had just thought this was normal discharge for a teen, as I knew being a teen I would be more prone to getting horny and so have discharge. I was treated but the problem still occurred, in fact it comes back no matter what treatment is used.
I went to my doctor on Thursday for more birth control and we discussed the issue, we have a good relationship, as he knows I have very good vaginal health and knows that I have very good knowledge of gynaecology so we can discuss the issue without having to dumb it down or explain everything being said.
He brought to me the idea that perhaps this is not BV at all but perhaps my normal bacterial and yeast, which quite frankly worried me, and I had been so adamant that it was BV I hadn’t even considered this, perhaps because I did not want to admit it.
If it is BV then at least there is some hope of finding a cure, but if it is my normal vaginal environment then I am stuck with it, no matter how clean I am, how many treatments I take there is no way of changing this.
I am going to the GUM clinic next week to get swabs done again, if nothing shows up in their exams I will know for sure whether it is BV or just my normal vaginal environment.
Has anyone else had this problem, have you found a way of dealing with this issue, or is it simply going to be a case of putting up with it?
