Dramatic increase in cramp pain - Women's Health Message Board

I've always had some cramping with my period, but only every other month. In the last year or so, I've noticed that these cramps have gone from what had been annoying (mild discomfort that a long bath would ease) to what is now downright painful (i.e. 800 mg of ibuprofin barely takes the edge off). The flow hasn't changed except to be a touch more than normal on the first day and the cycle time remains the same. I just had a pap and exam and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I'm in my mid-30s, so still a little young to be pre-menopausal. Is this yet another change that comes with age?

I think it may well be, my mother complained of increasing period pains, and she never had issues with them before. My mother was older than you when this started to happen, mid 30's would not be an age I would expect changes, but then every women is differant.
If it had been just over a couple of months I would have said it may have been a change in lifestyle somewhere but my [slightly] educated guess would be this. There are plenty of cure remidies out there, and more than enough ways to improve menstruation, just keep an eye out for information and something will come along that will help you.

Hi there!

Although I am younger than you, and am nowhere close to menopause. I had the same thing happen, As the time went on from my first period, My pain just got worse and worse over time. I finally went to a Gyn in Dec. of last year and got my diagnosis of endometriosis on March 24th after laparoscopic surgery. I was just wondering if maybe you have checked into some different things like endometriosis, or fibroids, or anything like that. Not that I would wish those things on anyone, but I have endometriosis, fibroids, and PCOS, and it sounds like maybe you could have something along those lines. Please keep us posted on how you are doing.
