freakiest thing ever!! pls help! - Women's Health Message Board

Hello everyone...ok this has never ever happened to me before and my husband and I are very concerned. First let me start by saying that I have been on BC for a few years and have had very normal periods and all my pap tests and things have all come back normal. My husband and I have an active sex life. My last day of my last period was about a week ago. Well, this morning I was showering and when I was washing below, I noticed something, pulled it off and realized it was part of a tampon string!! Just the string, no cotton part. Now, I am smart enough to know that the cotton part can't get lost past the vagina, and my husband and I have been intimate several times since my last period and we have noticed no changes whatsoever, no odors, pain, nothing! Now I am just perplexed at how this could have happened, and am wondering if a trip to the doctor would be in order, although I am so embarrased about this I don't even think I could bring myself to tell her what happened! Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.

It is not unusual for a tampon (or part of one) to get stuck and wedged. Several friends have told me they have had this exprience. I'm sure doctor's are used to it. It is actually easy to remove. Seeing a woman doctor might ease your embarrasment.

One time I inserted a tampon forgeting that I had not taken out the other one. I didn't notice anything until the odor and it was very strong. I stuck my finger WAY up there and found the other one. GROSS! I called my doctor and he said it was actually pretty common, and suggested I use a vinegar douche to get rid of any bacteria. But I would think you would definitely notice the odor if you still had one stick there/.

Yeah, I have had NO odors or pain or anything that would lead me to believe there was anything wrong. I was just freaked to find that string, thinking "OK, how the HECK did that happen?", ya know? My husband is pushing me to see the doctor "just in case" but I feel fine. My biggest concern is if that were common in women, because that's the first time anything like that had happened to me.

It is very common, and I would definately see the Dr because you could get toxicity if it is not removed. And that can lead to death. It is very serious. Because the string has already come out it is going to make it even more difficult to pull the whole cotton part out in one piece. PLEASE, go see your GYN.
