Menstrual Clotting - PLEASE HELP! - Women's Health Message Board

I first got my period when I was 10 or 11 years old. It has always been irregular and unpredictable. The heaviness is getting worse as I get older. I am now 18 years old and have recently (about a year ago, give or take) started experiencing clots with my period. I pass anywhere from about 5-10 a day for about the first three days of my period. They are not painful but are very large. And my period lasts for about 7 days. And just today, I passed one and it flooded the entire pad! I have been to the family doctor and to two different ob-gyn's. they do not seem to be too concerned but I am! I am very scared!! I am *not* on birth control and never have been. Also, I do have a spot on my one ovary. The ob-gyn, however, is not too concerned because my ovaries are small (not inflammed). Can anyone help me?! I am so scared!!

There is probably nothing wrong with you. I get terrible periods as well. They last for about 8-9 days...and they are still heavy enough for a pad or tampon on the 6th day. And yes, a lot of clotting as well. I just think you and I got lucky with our periods! lol My only suggestion is to go on birth control, it will make your bleeding a lot less heavy and your periods will prob be less than 7 days.

yeah, it's just so scary. i passed about 3 clots already today as well. there was one again, in particular, today that flooded the pad again. i think i really just need to get to the dr's. however, i do not believe that i am able to take birth control because of my neurological history (diagnosis of a typical migraines).

and i thought that it most likely what they will want to put me on??

I can't wear tampons during the first 3 days of my period because the clots cover them and they become useless for absorbtion. They do get worse with age. I've had clots so large that I have felt the urge to 'push'.

Ashers I wouldn't worry about the clots too much hun. I too sometimes suffer from large clots but usually they are normal sized for me. I would still see your doctor about the clots though and find out what the spot on your ovary is.

Oh you can go on birth control with miagraines. I suffer from the same thing and have just started using birth control.Take care
