Question Body hair/hormone pills ???

Alright..I have another post going about possibly having Pcos, and as we all know one of the symptoms is body hair. Does anyone know, if I start taking hormone pills, will it possibly help get rid of some of the hair thats not suppose to be there?

Or is there anything else I could do to get rid of it? I HATE this problem. its so embarrassing....aaaaand annoying

Re: Body hair/hormone pills ???

Did you see an Endocrinologist?? There is a chance that I am PCOS. I have alot of the symptoms including body hair. I have facial hair on my chin, neck and mustache. I take BC Pills and they don't seem to help. I actualy either pluck them or shave them. I might get them waxed off, that seems to be the esiest method.

You should possibly go to an Endocrinologist. They discuss what your symptoms are, review your menstral cycle and how your pregnancies were if you had any. My Endo Dr. sent me for a series of blood work and I am waiting for the results. He d*****atley feels that I have a Low Estrogen problem due to this past 5 months of dealing with large ovarian cysts. I know this whole situation is a real bummer!!

What is exactly your symptoms??

Your best bet is to see an Endocrinologist for a diagnosis. I have PCOS and I can tell you from my experience that meds can help to slow down the hair growth, but it will not eliminate it. For some people, meds don't help with hair at all. The only guaranteed permanent removal is electrolysis, but is painful and treatment can last for many many months. Laser hair removal is a faster treatment, but the max guarantee I have seen is 2 years hair free. It could go beyond that, they just don't guarantee longer than that. Or you could do the waxing, shaving or plucking thing.

I agree, see an endo. Your possibilities for treatment for the hair problems are spironolactone (love it!!), vaniqa, birth control pills, and then the physical methods of removal like laser.

Those are symptoms of PCOS. But you realy need to go to an Endocrinologist to realy be diagnosed.

An Endocrinologist is a Hormone and Metabilizum Specialist. They will discuss your symptoms and send you for blood work.

These are definately all symptoms of PCOS. An Endocrinologist is a doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating hormone disorders. That is your best bet, unless you are trying to conceive, or plan on it in the near future. Then you may want to see a Reproductive Endocrinologist, which is basically a glorified Endo (specialize in infertility issues and whatnot).

Another thing...........the dark skin around your neck........when you see a doctor.........make sure they check you for Insulin Resistance if they rule out Diabetes. Dark skin around the neck is often associated with IR, which if left untreated.......can lead to Type 2 Diabetes, which you don't want.

If you have anymore questions, just ask. I've researched PCOS extensively since my diagnosis 4 years ago.

What info would you like to know about it??? I can tell you with my experience that Metformin can work wonders in treating many symptoms associated with PCOS, whether you have an insulin problem or not. This drug helps to regulate the hormones, and can often lead to regular periods and even the ability to conceive. Some people experience side effects and find that they cannot tolerate the drug after being on it for an extended amount of time. Others find that their side effects subside shortly after beginning use. It really depends on the individual.

Re: Body hair/hormone pills ???

Just wanted to add that Cushings, while rare, closely mimics the symptoms of PCOS. Just one more reason to get checked out. Because if it isn't treated it can even cause death.

Re: Body hair/hormone pills ???

Another one of my fears is getting naked infront of ANYONE....if I go to a Endocrinologist, do I have to remove any clothing, or get poked n prodded in an area that I'm not real fond of letting anyone see?

Are you still using Metformin? How long do people take it, what's the dosage, did you experience any side effects, did they go away for you, etc. I had major stomach upset and felt like I was going to throw-up for four hours. Since I have been taking ginger before I take it and make sure I drink at least 12 oz. of water and eat at least a medium sized meal and this is all helping. I am only taking one pill a day and will increase to two a day and then two twice a day.

Re: Body hair/hormone pills ???

The four (crazy, I know) endocrinologists I have seen have lifted up my shirt and touched my stomach, I think feeling my adrenal glands. But I've never had to take off my clothes. Oh and one of them did a breast exam but I have a history of high prolactin so he did that for a reason.

Re: Body hair/hormone pills ???

What an Endocrinologist does is take your pulse, take your blood pressure, feel your abdomen, check your weight, check your breathing, go through your medical history regarding your menstral cycle, pregnancies, any medical conditions you have, family history, meds that you maybe on, your fisical atrabutes excetera... You don't even have to get undressed. So there is no embarresement. I liked that part.

Then they send you for some blood work. I was diagnosed with PCOS by him due to my medical history and I guess my blood work because when that came back he put me on Metformin.
