Question most Fertile time of month???

I was just wondering when the most fertile time of the month is for women. I mean I don't really understand the whole ovulation thing.
I just starting having sex with my boyfriend, and we want to not use condoms. and right now I am not on BC...but planning on it very soon, but I know that it takes a whole month for it to be effective.
So my question is how do you know when you are ovulating...and how do you figure it out.
Also my periods are not always on schedule...although the past 3 months or so they have been...so if anyone has an knowledge they can share with me...it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: most Fertile time of month???

If your periods are not regular then you are going to be PLAYING WITH FIRE by not using any birth control. The "rhythm method" as it is called will not work very well with you as you cannot accurately chart when you might ovulate. If you guys don't want to use condoms while you wait to get on the pill, patch, shot etc. try using a foam, they're easy and over the counter. Please use something! Or you will most likely get pregnant!!

Re: most Fertile time of month???

Fertility awareness is actually a very effective method of birth control. 98-99% effective. BUT it takes 3 months of practice before you can have unprotected sex and like the others said won't protect you from sexually transmitted diseases.
If you are interested in this method, check out Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. Fertility is determined primarily by taking your temperature every morning and checking your cervical fluid (a.k.a. discharge) throughout the day.
Some women also use condoms with this method, and abstain when most fertile in case the condom breaks.

Re: most Fertile time of month???

i am not a doctor--this is just something i was told.

a normal cycle is 28 days
count from the first day of your period...14 days. the week starting the 14th day theres a good chance you can get pregnant.
you should avoid having sex if you dont want to get pregnant.

you can only get pregant if your ovulating. you can tell if your ovulating sometimes. sometimes you will have a thick clear (maybe tinged with blood) jelly looking substance when you wipe.
sometimes you will have a clear discharge (like more than usual)

I have heard that there are like three optimal days a month that a woman can get pregnant...i extend it to a full week

i am living proof that the rhythem method doesn't work...i have five kids. find a better more reliable form of birth control. be smart.
