Discharge, spotting, breast soreness -- HELP - Women's Health Message Board

Hi all.

I am a 33-year-old woman and have been on and off various bc for the past ten years.

I am very sexually active with my boyfriend, and this seems to have led to a series of urinary tract infections over the past six months, one of which developed into a kidney infection. They were all treated with Cipro. However, I recently contracted symptoms AGAIN of a UTI (extremely painful urination and urgency), and was put on Cipro again. Now I have experienced brownish discharge and/or spotting for the past week (this has never happened in any of the other Cipro treatments) and I am worried.

I have been taking a generic version of The Pill, called Apri, for the past six months. My period has been regular on the pill but my breasts have been extremely sore constantly. I've also felt more emotionally erratic but that is for another thread (!).

Another concern is that my periods have gotten very heavy, and the most recent one lasted for a full seven days.

Does anyone have any advice? I am freaking myself out that it might be fibroids, a STD, or something else that is serious.

Hi, I'm sorry for your problems, b/c I seem to prone to UTIs as well, and know how awful it can be. One thing I was wondering, did they tell you that the meds would interfere with your BC? Because it would have, so if you didin't use any other protection, there might be a possibility of pregnancy. I don't want to scare you, but since you didn't mention that in your post, just wanted to make sure you were aware of it. I hope things get better, and I'm sorry couldn't offer more insight about your messed up periods! Good Luck!

Thanks for your response. I don't think I could possibly be pregnant and I ended up going to my doctor. She thinks it might be related to the pill that I'm on and switched me to Yasmin. Hopefully it will result in some changes as I am currently on day 6 of the discharge and it's making me crazy.
