| Prolonged Menstrual Bleeding--why??
My mother is 58 years old. She is at least 50 lbs. overweight, diabetic, and is on high-cholesterol and high-blood pressure medication. She also smokes and is not very active. She had four children, the last one in 1969 (me). She has a history of uterine fibroid tumors, but I don't think they have ever been treated. I don't think she's been through menopause yet. She told me that she used to use and IUD, but had it removed when she found out it might punture her uterine wall--I don't know the dates of that. Her periods have always been heavy and uncomfortable, but recently she has been bleeding nonstop for almost two months straight now. She keeps putting off going to her gyno for whatever reason. Her mother recently died of breast cancer, and she had an aunt that died of ("blood cancer?"), but there's no other cancer history in her family. What could be causing the excessive, constant bleeding? Any ideas I can pass along to her to hasten her visit to her gynocologist would be most helpful. Thanks so much!
