Vaginal Irritation Ruining My Life - Women's Health Message Board

I have been to see my OBGYN approximately 7 times about this problem. Around the vaginal area my skin is raw and red. It is so uncomfortable to get throught the day wearing clothes. My doctor tested me to rule out std's, once std ruled out he prescibed a rectal creme that is used for hemorroids. 2.5% cortisone creme. Although this makes it better, it does npt make it go away. It will dissappear as fast as it will appear. He told me I had vaginal ulcers that were either stress related or environmental; soaps, detergents, etc. This is really affecting how active I am. Just want to shower once work is over and walk around my house without panties on. Even when I wear 100% cotton, it does not help. Should I now go see a dermatologist? I do take baking soda baths, once again, this is not the cure. If you have any advice let me know. There is ONLY vaginal irritation, no discharge, no odor. HELP!

I can sure understand what you are going thru. I went thru something similar, but for me it just turned out to be another menopausal symptom. Really felt like I was sitting on crushed glass. Solved the problem with an estrogen cream. If your gyn can't help, then seeing a dermatologist may be a good idea.
Have they done any bloodwork? Or urinalysis? Just a thought.
As a kid I had soreness in that area whenever I ate strawberries, or had too much acidic foods. Suppose it made my urine too acidic for the sensitive tissues.
Sure hope you get answers soon. I may not have the exact same problem, but can sure empathize with your pain & frustration.

I have thought in the past it could be menopausal, however, I am 40, have been having this on and off for about 10 years. It is at its worst now. Maybe an estrogen creme would help. I am willing to try anything. Thanks for the kind words!!

My mother had this happen and her doctor called it Downy Syndrome. She was allergic to fabric softner.

I sure can relate, I had a similar problem and come to find out I couldn't wear nylons, or nylon panties, I had to switch to cotton, also I was alergic to all kinds of laundry soaps, I had to resort to ALL, that is the only thing I can use ever...I had some really bad itching and they gave me a antibiotic called Flagyl which took it right away, they claimed I had some kind of bacterial infection, and no odor, no discharge, just some severe itching that made me want to stick a brush up there and scratch! I would have some tests done to rule out anything serious.
