Ow...pain in lower abdomen! Help!!! - Women's Health Message Board

My periods have been irregular since before I can remember, but recently I've developed some really bad, shooting pains in my pelvis and lower abdomen. When they are really bad, the pain shoots down my leg on the side that is hurting at the time. The pains before kinda came and went...but I'm coming out of my cycle now...and they are waaayyy worse and very constant....I'm really getting frustrated with this. I've also been really nauseous...I don't know if it is just from the pain or what, but it's getting really annoying.

I heard that it might be an ovarian cyst? So I decided to post here. Please help me......I'm getting really frustrated.

note: I have hypothryroidism

Last year I started having crazy periods (like I'd go 2-3 months without one and then when I did get one, it'd be horribly painful and heavy and last like 2 weeks). I really didn't have any sharp shooting pains, but I did have backaches a lot.

When I started bleeding and it wouldn't stop, I went to my OB who did an internal sonogram and discovered I had a 8 cm cyst on one of my ovaries. We watched it for 3 months and it didn't shrink. She did a CA125 test and that came back elevated...it was NOT cancer, thank God! She wanted to at least remove that ovary. However, I did elect to have a hysterectomy. I am 37 and was done having kids. Plus, I didn't want to have to go back in a few years and take out the rest (total surgery scaredy cat here!). Anyway, we did the TAH and I ended up having a hemorrhagic cyst (cyst that bled in on itself) and endometriosis which had been previously undiagnosed.

I feel so much better now. If it is a cyst, your doctor will be able to guide you to make the best decision for you. If you are still of childbearing age, if you don't want surgery, etc.....

thanks...I am only nineteen, so hopefully if it IS a cyst, I hope it will only be on one side...because I do want to have children some day. Thanks again!

Hi, it sounds like you might have Endometriosis. The symptoms you described are dead on for Endo symptoms. Have you told your DR about your pain?
You could also have a cyst. I have Endo and I had ovarian cysts. So you could have a combo of things going on. If I where you I would get checked out by a DR.

i have a cyst on my right ovarie thats about almost 3 inches its almost covering my ovarie, i have already had a half hysterectomy, so we r going to take the ovaries out because i am gonna be 36 and i have 3 sons already, but the problem with me is when the cyst bust they r leaving free fluid in my stomachi ahve had some hot flashes with my first surgery but am scared to think whats gonna happen and i don't want to be put to sleep am hoping to have a shot in the back to numb me.
