I had my first pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound last Thursday for abnormal bleeding postmenopausal. My endocrinologist thinks it's probably a polyp & my pcp suggested maybe a small fibroid.

Questions: During the pelvic ultrasound, I could see the screen and asked if the big black circle was my uterus. She (tech) said no, that was my bladder - my uterus was a tiny little "nodule" below it that kept disappearing and I would say no bigger than the end of my thumb! (I've never been pregnant.) I l aughed. Okay, then she went to do the transvaginal ultrasound and immediately turned the monitor towards her - I could not see it. I'm wondering why she turned the monitor? Just a sensitivity issue? Was she afraid I could see something? Was it because she only had one hand free?

She was actually very gentle. Nonetheless, I have some tender areas internally and afterwards, several hours later had some burning in my low front pelvic area and just sense of discomfort. She said they would fax the report to my doc in 2 or 3 days and doctor could give a diagnosis so I assume that's standard if nothing's seen in there. Was the tenderness from being at the end of a period? Slight propensity towards cystitis that's usually in check? I perceived discomfort as she prodded towards my left.

I did not drink all that much water - I couldn't - and told them so in advance and they never said a peep about it during the test. Why do they make such a big deal out of drinking such copious amounts of water? I think smaller women must have smaller bladders.
