threethings,
I can't think of anything to ask before the lap but a gastro dr. is not necessary for this procedure. My biggest concern was trusting my doctor and by that I mean trust his knowledge of endo. Things like, how often he does the procedure (weekly), whether or not this is his specialty (it is), does he do the procedure by laser (yes). I suggest getting your prescription for pain when you go in for your pre-op. Go ahead and get it filled and have it at home so when you get home from your surgery you already have it on hand in case you need it. I had some shoulder pain from the carbon dioxide they use to inflate your stomach during the procedure. The more prepared you are the more comfortable you will be afterwards. Another thing I would suggest is purchasing a heating pad with both the moist and dry settings. Using the moist setting will do wonders with alleviating most discomfort during the first 2 days. Also, depending on the height of your bed you may want to have a step stool handy to help you get in and out of the bed and be conscious of how you are bending as to not put pressure on the area. I even went as far as to buy a couple extra pairs of cotton lounge pants in a size bigger than what I wear so they would not be too tight on the tummy area. I have a wonderful doctor so my recovery was smooth and was not as big of a deal as I thought it would be once it was over with as I have a pretty high tolerance for pain but I'm still a big baby!

I have listed 2 links below. One is for a q&a my doctor did a couple years ago and also the link to his office. It may answer some of the questions you might have regarding the newest, less painful procedures being done, etc. Also, there is a link (Medical Diary) where there was an article where he was featured in Mademoiselle magazine in 1999. hope this helps a little. take care. kpd
