to all the girls who answered my post' ovary pain-getting worse'

Hi thanx for all your replies
Im sitting here just finished abs crying my eyes out I feel so fed up
Just come back from the docs.
Right, I went in there and said bout my periods-she asked me some questions like how heavy/painful etc they are went through all that(with her saying that heavy painful periods are not uncommon)I then went on to say bout the ovary pain-b4 I could even xplain how awful it was yest she said 'that's not uncommon many girls get mid cycle pain -ovulation pain.
John then jumped in and said 'look she was wincing in pain yest and its being getting worse over a week'
The doc then said she wanted to do this internal exam with this metal thing-It really hurt me , I nearly started crying-she then did a normal internal exam and said the ovaries wernt enlarged or anything.
She then felt either side where it hurts(felt very tender when she pushed left side) and said 'you said it feels hard but you've got good toned muscles round there' and 'You said you were in real pain yest but the ovaries arent enlarged and I cant feel any lumps or bumps'
At this point johns started to get a bit arsey with her so Iv told him to calm down.
When I told her it really hurts when weeing and the pain I sometimes get down my leg she didn't really say anything.
Eventually she said 'Have you ever heard of endometriosis?' I said id been looking at it on the net and she said
'That something that we would want to rule out but the thing is with that is it is a very painful condition and you wouldn't be having mid cycle pain it only hurts when you are actually on your period'
At this point Ive given up and johns not said anything cos he thinks im getting annoyed with him.
She said that she would repeat the ultrasound so she filled out a refferral form and that will take about 6-8 weeks to come thru
She said if that doesn't show anything then she will go thru a gyn and get a lap sorted but we are talking mnths I shud imagine.
She wrote me a perscription for mefenamic acid(which ive already got)and told to take them thru my next period.
Lukily the pain isnt as bad as yest cos that was that.
Then john went in a mood with me cos he said there was no point in him going cos I wouldn't let him talk wich wernt true he was just getting wound up and I told him to calm down.
What do you think to all that?
xxxxxx

Re: to all the girls who answered my post' ovary pain-getting worse'

I don't agree with what your doctor was telling you at all! That kind of pain is not normal!! And you don't have to have pain just during your period to have endo...pain can be anytime. I know about the waiting period, it really sucks. I was told that I would have to wait too, like months. I couldn't do it though and decided to go to a different gyno that wasen't in our town just so I could get the lap done sooner. That's what you might have to do if you can't take the pain too much. Well, you can see how the pain meds work first, if they help than maybe you'll be able to wait otherwise you should go somewhere else where you can get the surgery done quicker. They don't have the right to make you wait in pain. Your bf has every right to be upset, ur in a lot of pain and he doesn't want to see you in it and when the doctors there telling you its normal, that can be very aggravating. It's good you have him there to support you. Well tell me what you decide? Take Care! I hope the pain meds help you.

Re: to all the girls who answered my post' ovary pain-getting worse'

I would get another opinon. I dont seem to agree with your doc.
I also dealt with pain when I urinated. It would hurt either side and dealt with this for YEARS !! My old OB was no help. He said it was just bad ovulation pain....well I found out I was getting massive size cysts during the ovulation pain as well as clusters of cysts. That is why it hurt when I urinated !!!!! I found out 2 years ago I was PCOSand that was just ONE of my problems !! From what I understand there are different forms of PCOS.
Then I found out I had Adenomyosis (internal Endo) 11 months ago by a Hysterctomy. That is why I had severe period pain since I was 13. It got to the point my pain was continuess...NOTHING WAS HELPING ANYMORE !!

You need a Laparoscopy done, hormone testing, you should see an Endocrinologist.

Re: to all the girls who answered my post' ovary pain-getting worse'

Hi katie...

Sorry you are going through this. My husband had to go with me a couple of times to the doctor to give me back up because I felt like I was getting the brush off too from my regular doctor. Finally, after six months he referred me to an OB/GYN and she was great, but I still had to go through a lot of tests, waiting for results, and then I finally got my laparoscopy. None of the tests found anything wrong until I had the lap and they found endometriosis. Your doctor is wrong, because I was having pain every day, not just during my period...but it was worse during ovulation, PMS, and while I was menstruating. This is a very painful illness. The most important thing is to try to manage your pain while you are waiting for your diagnosis, so if your medicine isn't helping, you should speak up and ask for something that would be more helpful.

Re: to all the girls who answered my post' ovary pain-getting worse'

Hi, I don't think your doctor was taking your pain serious enough. I would try and see a different doctor if that is possible. I was given so many ultrasounds, one after another along with all kind of test, before they wanted to admit it was Endo. I hope this doesn't happen in your case as well. Even though I have a family history of Endo they still didn't want to admit it could be Endo for some crazy reason. OBGYN's are so weird when it comes to female pain. They try to dance all around the fact, all along leaving there patients in pain. I'm sorry this happened to you. Your b/f I'm sure means well, sometimes guys have a hard time expressing there feeling and come across the wrong way. It has happened to me too. Try to to let yourself get to stressed over it, as stress causes pain to get worst. (I know easier said than done)

I agree with all the ladies. You need another opinion. Go to another doctor outside of your regular doctor's office. When you call to make an appointment let them know you have pain. All the time. Then when you go in, take him in as well and ask some questions. She cannot tell if your ovaries are enlarged of if you have cysts by doing an internal exam. Mine didn't even show up on a ultrasound.

I don't remember.. are you on b.c.? That is supposed to help, but I haven't met anyone who its helped!

Just keep a log of your pain levels day by day, and bring it with you. Also when you are in pain call in to your doctor and tell the nurse. The more you call the more action you get.

Any kind of pain is not normal... keep that in mind, if it hurts you get it fixed. Ask your family or friends for doctor referals. When you ask, ask if you feel they would be a good problem solver...

Hope you are feeling better

Re: to all the girls who answered my post' ovary pain-getting worse'

Thats good that ur horrible pain went away. I'm doing alright except for having the stomach flu right now. I also hate these hot flashes I'm getting from the Lupron Depot that I'm on for my endometriosis. I don't even think this Lupron shot is helping with my endo pain, I still get cramps and lower back pain everyday. I don't think there is any treatment out there that actually takes the pain of endo away completely. One good thing though, i haven 't noticed the pelvic pain at all lately.

Re: to all the girls who answered my post' ovary pain-getting worse'

Actually I'm feeling worse, the cramps seem to be getting worse and now I'm getting this really bad acheing in my arms and hands. And whenever I wake up in the morning I'm really stiff. Its this shot i'm pretty sure. Acheing of muscles and joints is another side effect of the Lupron shot. I've only got a month left of this shot though and I ain't going to have another one thats for sure. I'm going back to birth control. I never had any side effects from birth control. How are you doing now?

Re: to all the girls who answered my post' ovary pain-getting worse'

Lupron is horrible, now i believe it more than ever. But no, the doctors won't tell you how bad it really is. My gyno just said I would have hot flashes and that Lupron has a 93% chance of getting rid of the pain. I don't know where he got his statistic. I also told him about a lady I read about that had side effects even after her treatment with Lupron and he said "I've never heard of someone having continueing side effects after coming off the shot." I'm like well these women wouldn't lie. And how come I hear more bad about Lupron than I do good i thought. I'm now trying this Bayer: Back and Body Pain to see if that will help with these aches. I hope it works. I can't wait till this shot wears off. Never try this shot. So how are the doctors you are seeing now?

Re: to all the girls who answered my post' ovary pain-getting worse'

Huh well.....the day after I had that awful thing going on in my ovary areas I had an appt with my new doctor..initial thought-great at least as that happened yest she has to listen to me-so I went in told her al the background and then went on to tell her about the ovary pain..before I could fininsh sshe basically talked over me and startred babbling about ovulation pain!
It was hurting for over a week and then got really bad on that day and even after that died down for about 3 days after all my pelvic area felt relly bruised and it still hust to wee-surely not ovulation?!
so my boyf gets a bit at this point and I have to tell him to calm down!
She asked me if id heard of endo metriosis and I said yes thinking I might be getting somewhere but then she goes 'the thing with that is if you had that you woulnt be getting mid cycle pain-only in your periods!'
If info is so easy to come by on the net..where do these docs get their info?!
anyway.....She is getting me amother ultrasound done which will take 6-8 weeks to come through and she said if that doesnt show anything she will consider a lap.

It sounds awful what your going through..sometimes my probs seem abs nothing!all the things I have read about lupron have been bad..I tell you if I did have anything and they offered it me the answer would be no thanks!!!
I hope you have a bit more luck off it.....

Re: to all the girls who answered my post' ovary pain-getting worse'

I know exactly what your going through right now with the doctors. I went through the same thing. All my docs said I was too young and that since my pain didn't relate to my menstrual cycle that it couldn't be endometriosis. But thats the thing, endometriosis doesn't have an exact pain pattern. Its different in every women, some have pain just during ovulation and their period while others can have it constantly everyday. I had it everyday. I also always suffered with severe menstrual cramps during my period. But at the time I didn't know that they weren't normal, no one ever told me that severe menstrual cramps could be a sign of something wrong. Almost every period that I've ever had since I was 11 I had severe cramps where I'd be curled in a ball crying during my period. Mydol always used to help with that though but now it doesn't seem to work for it. I had to beg my gyno to give me a lap. I was in so much pain and after going to the ER and a shot of morphin not helping I had had enough, so I kept calling back and complaining that the pain was getting worse and I wanted the lap asap. She then gave in and scheduled me for one a week later. Surprise!...i did have endo just as I suspected. Even though it wasen't very much it still caused a ton of pain. She burnt off the spots she could see but they can miss spots too. Some are even invisible, thats the worst kind of endo. I think I might have some of that otherwise I wouldnt' still be having pain. Just to let you know too, ultrasounds dont' usually show endo and I really don't know why they use them as a form of detecting endo. Only if its really bad and thick can they notice it on an ultrasound, thats why a lap is the only real accurate way that they can find endo. I don't know whats wrong with doctors either, they don't know enough about the disease. Thats why they call endometriosis the silent disease, not many people know about it and certainly the doctors don't know enough about it. I don't know why doctors can't keep up to date on research and information about endo. I've learned so much from researching online. I've watched videos from experts about endo and all of them said things that doctors never tell you about. Thats why some women say its better to see an endo specialist cause they know the most about endo where as ordinary gynos doesn't know hardly anything. Its so, so sad how so many women suffer with this disease for so long and aren't aware of it and their doctors dont' diagnose it soon enough. The average delay in diagnosis of endo is 9 years. If they could diagnose it sooner in adolescents they might be able to control it better. I'm never going to stop learning about endo, I've recently bought a book called Endometriosis: The complete referance to taking charge of your health, it should arrive in the mail this week. I can't wait to read it, its supposed to be the best book out there on endo. There are also a lot of good endo websights online. I hope you are able to have the lap and get a dianosis. I'm sorry you have to go through all this waiting, its not right. Your boyfriend has every right to be mad at your doctor. I'm mad at all of them for not knowing enough and not taking the time to learn about it.

Sincerely,
Jenny
p.s. sorry this post was so long, I'm just so passionate about telling the real truth of this disease.
