Urethral Caruncle - anyone ever had this? - Women's Health Message Board

I am posting this question with the hopes that someone out there who is my age would of experienced this before. I am 29 years old and for the past 6 month I have had some sort of growth just below my urethra. I have posted questions on this board asking if anyone would know what it was and done hours of research on the internet... but found nothing. Yesterday, I finally got into to see the OBS/GYN after being on a long waitlist. As soon as she looked at it, she said it's a urethral caruncle. She explained that most elderly ladies or pre-adolescents get this and it is very rare to see it in someone my age. She prescribed Premarin Vaginal cream for me to apply to the affected area. My concern is why do I have this at my age and should I be concerned? The OBS says no, but everything I now have found online relates this to menapause and it is beginning to freak me out! Any experiences with this anyone?

Hormones fluctuate every month in women of child-bearing age. I believe that estrogen levels drop after ovulation and that's when we get problems with our skin, like acne, etc. My guess is this is a problem related to lower estrogen levels and your doctor gave you this estrogen supplement to get rid of this problem. It sounds very uncomfortable...I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks SRMom... seems like nobody has ever really experienced this as I haven't got many replies. I've been using the cream everyday now for almost a week, so I'm hoping it goes away soon. It's very annoying more than painful. I am wondering if I do have lower estrogen levels than most women my age, as I am on Wellbutrin for depression, and the big thing that was included in my depression was the fact that I have no sex drive.. no desire for it at all...and this really bothers me. Now I"m wondering if it's something to do with estrogen and maybe I should be taking some kind of natural suplement? So far the wellbutrin hasn't really brought it back. Maybe this cream will, but since it is applied to the affected area on the outside, I can't see how it could?

Wellbutrin claims it has a "low risk" of sexual side effects, meaning that it may not have negative effects, but most antidepressants do have this potential to cause low libido...so I hope it isn't causing your sex drive to be decreased. On a positive note, I believe the Premarin cream is given to post-menopausal women to help enhance their sex drive, help with vaginal dryness and/or painful intercourse. It contains estrogen, which is a main sex hormone. You might also want to get your testoterone levels checked...I've read that low testosterone in women can cause low libido. To answer your question about why is this happening at your age...all I can say is everyone is different. Hopefully, this Premarin will get rid of that caruncle and make you feel sexy again in no time. Good luck!
