For years I have had pain and burning with intercourse. The pain seems to be coming from inside my vagina. I have been to several gynecologists but none have been able to help me. Most seem to take on the attitude of since they don't see anything physically wrong then it either must all be in my head or there is nothing wrong. I'm in the process of trying to find a GYN that deals with pelvic pain in hopes she might be able to help me. I do not have an STD. I have found that it is painful, but not impossible, to have my gynecological exams.

I am 26 years old and I have been with my current boyfriend for 7 years. I have only had one other sexual partner before him. With my first sexual partner sex never hurt. With my current boyfriend it started hurting after being together 2 or 3 years. I found an article on vaginismus and this sounds a lot like my problem. My bf often tells me to relax my muscles, that he can feel me tense up. He says he can feel it about 1 or 2 inches inside me which is where it hurts/burns. I don't realize that I am tensing up and find it very difficult to relax because of the pain. Penetration is difficult and painful. Once we get past that it gets a little better, and sometimes the pain goes away for a little while, but it almost always comes back before we finish. It even hurts when he uses his finger(s). We've tried tons of lubrication...which sometimes works initially, but the pain always comes back. It's like a viscious cycle. Does anyone here have vaginismus? I would really appreciate any feedback or advice! Thanks for listening!
