Alot of black discharge - Women's Health Message Board

Hey,

I've been getting some very weird black discharge for the past few days. My period isn't due or anything so it's not that.

I've just started new antidepressants and the method of birth control I use is the coil (IUD).

Could any of these contribute to it??
I'm confused.

Hi xpit

There could be a couple of reasons why you are getting the black discharge.

Could you be pregnant?? Having the coil fitted there is still a chance that you could be pregnant and the coil would cause black old blood if you are pregnant.

The black discharge is old blood...... which means you may have a slight infection that could be easily treated or you may need a D&C just to give the womb a good clean out.

It is owrth going to the doctor as i have the coil fitted and it can cause infections in some people.

How long have you had the coil in? As it should be changed every 5 years, therefore if you are having black discharge this can be a sign the coil needs changing.

Hmm...well, I've only had the coil in for around 6 months so it doesn't need changing yet. I had some teething problems with it at the start but there have been no problems for ages.

As for being pregnant, it's very unlikely as I have the coil and my bf and I have also been using condoms.

Maybe you could go to the doctor and ask them to do a swab to rule out any infections.

When i first had my coil fitted i started to get what you had, i had a swab done but that came back fine.....i was told that sometimes the coil can cause this. It never cleared up, i use to get it on and off and had to wear panty liners sometimes.

When was your last smear test?

I've never had a smear test before as I'm only 19.
