bacterial VAGINITIS or bacterial VAGINOSIS...there's a difference?????
Hi all...I've never seen any of you posting about this, so I thought I'd get some feedback.
I went to my GYN last week for my yearly exam and told him about my recurring BV. I've been treated with MetroGel, Clindesse etc...and it goes away but keeps coming back after repeated unprotected intercourse. You all know the symptoms, the bad odor and discharge. I don't get any irritation with mine. I was referring to it as bacterial VAGINOSIS, but my doctor told me that the reason why the treatments I've tried haven't worked is because he thinks I may have bacterial VAGINITIS, which is different than VAGINOSIS, because it's one type of bacteria upsetting my PH balance instead of several, or some such thing. He determined this after taking a vaginal smear and looking at it under the microscope, and he's sending it out to the lab for more definitive answers. He said I've never had a correct diagnosis, and he's right, because from the first time I got these symptoms, I was diagnosed and prescribed something over the phone, after telling them my symptoms. I was thinking that maybe it is a different type of bacteria, because I don't always have the "fish" odor, it's mostly a strong, unpleasant odor. He prescribed penicillin for me, 825 mgs twice a day orally of amoxicillin...that's generic for whatever one begins with an m, the name of it escapes me right now. Anyway, give me your feedback on this, please. Thanks!
