Tampon use after C-Section? I'm confused Please help - Women's Health Message Board

Everyone is probably getting sick n tired of my threads, but I have yet another question for you ladies.

Ok so I know after you give birth you are not allowed to use Tampons. You have to use Pads. Now is that the same if you are having a C-Section? Or can you use Tampons? I really hate Pads and would rather not use them. Or at least only use them for the shortest time possible.So if you are not allowed to use Tampons even after a C-Section then when are you allowed to start using Tampons again?

I'm sorry that's a little bit TMI but I was just wanting to know. Thank you for reading this

I don't think you're supposed to use tampons even after a c-section. I hate pads too, but from my understanding, even with a c-section you're gonna bleed like crazy and you'd be changing tampons a lot more often than you would pads. I would assume though that after you're done with the bleeding due to giving birth you can go back to tampons.

I believe the reason for not using tampons is to decrease the risk of uterine infection. Everytime you put a tampon in, there is a chance of pushing bacteria up there along with it. That's also why they tell you to wait to have sex after birth or after a d&c.

I was told after my c-section not to use tampons. I'm pretty sure sara is right, its an infection issue. You will have quite a bit of bleeding usually for several weeks after but from what I understand there is less with a c-section. Before closing you back up they are able to remove more of the uterine lining so you actually have a little less bleeding. It does still last a while though and is still heavy. If you really don't like pads I recommend bringing some of your own. The hospitals are good for the first day when its really heavy and if you have a c/s you won't be able to get out of bed anyway, but they are HUGE and very uncomfortable so you probably want your own.

My OB said the same thing. Nothing in the vagina for 6 weeks due to infection. I did get my period back 7 weeks after my c-section. I was able to use tampons then. During my 6 weeks of post pardom bleeding I was told to use pads. HTH
