Kelly, sometimes a yeast infection can't be treated with the over-the-counter Monistat because it's not strong enough. It depends on what caused the infection. I know that for me, if I get one due to using antibiotics, then I can't use monistat because it does nothing. That's why I always ask my doc to prescribe Diflucan with the antibiotic to counter the infection before it starts.
If you find that after using the monistat for a week that it doesn't get better, call your doc and ask for Diflucan. It will clear it up a lot faster. It just depends on the particular infection, sometimes they are more persistant than others.
