No Period for 4 months.

My boyfriend said I should consult a website, so here I am.

I haven't had my period in four months. I know I'm not pregnant, because four months ago I was still a virgin. It's happened before, and I always figured it was due to stress. Talking to my mom about this would just cause ALOT of drama. She knows I haven't had my period. If you knew my mom, you'd understand. She'll find a way to take ANYTHING you tell her, twist it around, and stab you in the back with it.

My boyfriend offered to drive down to where I live [we're about 50mi apart], and take me to the doctor, but I can't get the money from my parents, nor do we have insurance. I won a lawsuit from a car accident a few months ago, so I technically have the money, but I can't get it until I'm eighteen [which is less than a month away]

I had sex for the first time on Monday, and I was spotting a little bit, but I'm not anymore. I think it was just from pentration.

What should I do?

Re: No Period for 4 months.

What's the deal with your mom? Not my business of course, but this is your health we're talking about! I went through something similar when I was in my early 20s. My periods were very irregular so i went to the gyno and she confirmed i had ovarian cysts. do you ever have sharp stinging pains about where your ovaries are? i did but that was because they got as big as a tennis ball, most don't get that big. but that's what she'll check for anyway if and when you go, which you really need to when you get the money. And use protection every time, dear, and not just for pregnancy either. You'll be fine, just get to the doctor when you can.

To put it nicely.. My mom isn't very nice.
And no, I never have sharp pains.

Re: No Period for 4 months.

In an emergency, there are usually resources that can be tapped into. Consider these:

1. High school nurse
2. Local clinic (whether public or nonprofit)
3. Medical clinic of local college or university
4. Emergency room

Many of these places have a sliding fee, can bill you or can refer you to public assistance resources. As your boyfriend has a vehicle and is willing to take you, you even have more reach.

If you are in an abusive family environment where medical emergencies are deferred or derided, I would also urge you to seek advice from a local women's crisis center in your region or state. These take a lot of personal will power, but beginning to physically distance yourself is an important first step.

If "drama" is not "abuse," suck it up and deal with the drama. This is your health, and even if she flips out, just stick to your guns that this is an EMERGENCY not like you are asking for money for a new pair of shoes.

If you "just can't"

-- do not hesitate to borrow money from caring family and friends. A handwritten I.O.U. with agreed payback terms is just credit in a different form. Just don't forget them when your accident income comes through!

-- sell some of your things (be your own fundraiser)

Good luck.
