Unhappy At the end of my rope! Yeast Infections.

I'm at my breaking point. I'm 23 years old and I've been suffering from chronic yeast infections for a couple years now. My gynecologist has been working with me and we have tried everything. I'm a very clean person, I wipe from front to back, I wear cotton underwear only, I don't douche, I don't use any products down there. My fiancee and I use condoms and I've been tested for STD's. I've been on two separate six month therapies of Diflucan but the infections still keep coming back.

So then I went to my regular doctor. I was tested for diabetes and HIV but those both came back negative. She does believe though that I could still be pre-diabetic even though my blood sugar levels are normal. She sent me to a specialist to have me tested for immune disorders. The specialist has my blood test results but I spoke to a nurse there and she said there wasn't a note to call me. So that probably means the results came back normal (although I will wait to hear from the doctor myself.)

I tried yogurt a million times and I've tried cutting down sugars and carbohydrates but that didn't really seem to make a difference either.

I have clinical depression too so this whole thing is really taking a toll on me. Physically and emotionally. I'm so tired of doctors and being poked and prodded. I've been very depressed lately. My relationship with my fiancee is strained although he is doing his best to be understanding and patient.

I guess this really isn't for advice (but I will take any you can give!) I just needed to vent because I feel so alone.

Re: At the end of my rope! Yeast Infections.

I'm beginning to feel like i'm in the same boat as you. Since last October I've been getting yeast infections constantly. Like you, i've cut down on my sugar intake, yeast intake, and started eating yogurt daily. I went all February without one, then Last week it started again!! I just went to the Dr. today and told them about having them time and time again. I won't get the results until the end of the week though. What makes it worse though is that I also was recently diagnosed with HPV, and HGSIL with moderate dysplasia. I can't have sex with my boyfriend for God only knows how long, I can't do anything. I feel like crap and it's taking it's toll on me. I mean i'm only 19 this is ridiculous!
If you don't mind me asking, at what age did you start having them continuously?
Also, know that I feel for ya!! Just be strong! Hopefully the Dr.'s will be able to figure out what is causing your yeast infections this time.If you ever need someone to vent to or anything feel free to let it out on me.

Thanks for your reply. I was around 19 or 20 years old when they started getting severe.

Re: At the end of my rope! Yeast Infections.

Boric acid supposortories 600mg 2x a day. Do a search online you will find alot of info on using this for severe yeast problems that don't respond to normal treatments. Ilived with yest infections for years untill finally a new GYN I went to suggested this and it does work! Your doc can write out a prsescription for this and then a drug store that compounds medicine will make them up for you.

How about taking the Acidophilus Bifidus Capsules Orally? I get yeast infections if I take antibiotics but not if i start on the capsules first. They are like the youghurt but a stronger dose of good live bacteria.

Re: At the end of my rope! Yeast Infections.

I've been having problems with yeast infections for about 5-6 years now. If it isn't bacterial vaginosis, then its yeast infection. I quit taking the birth control pills (Nortrel) last Dec 06. I've been eating yogurt for the past 3 months. The last visit I had with my doctor was 3/12/07. Everything looks fine down there and I didn't have BV. Although, he had to a culture on my discharge. So, I'm happy about the BV but I'm worried that I might have a yeast infection.

For the past couple of years, my gyn would look under the microscope and tell me that my discharge looked normal. Everytime after sex with my boyfriend, I would develop a yeast infection. Perhaps, I was allergic to his semen or he can be a carrier of the yeast infection (of which we found out later that he is) or the yeast infection was never really eradicated. I've taken Monistat, Clotramizole, Micanozole, and Diflucan (Flucanozole). I would seem all right but then I would get the infection right after sex. Even when I wasn't having sex, I still had the symtpoms. So, my gyn decided to do a culture because there are some yeast infections that can't be detected/determined under the microscope. After a week, the results came back positive for yeast.

Imagine, all the while I would think I was getting better and treating myself each time, yet I didn't do----- a FOLLOW-UP appointment to make sure that a culture was done and the results would come back negative. I'm so upset with myself. Now, I have a rare case of yeast infection- nonalbicans VVC. There is no optimal (desirable) treatment. It is basically a trial and effort. I'm hoping that boric acid suppositories (2 xs a day for 14 days) will work. I've done research and the success rate is 63% to 98% (of course depending on the woman's body). Not all of us have the same type of level of treatment or success. PLEASE remember that after every treatment to do a follow-up so that way you will know if the medications are working. If not, by doing the culture, they will be able to find the best possible medication that is reactive to the infection/specimen in the culture dish.

You should try reading the string by babydawl. She is going through the same thing I'm going through and I'm waiting to hear the outcome.

Since then, I've broken up with my boyfriend. I found out he had been sleeping around. I've quit taking the pill in Dec 06. I started eating yogurt. I follow the preventative measures (wipe front to back, cotton underwear, light/mild detergent for laundry, avoid yeast (bread), cut down on eating chocolates truffles and sweets, cut down on drinking coffee and milk products, I shower in the morning and night, I don't wear pantyhose, I need to lose weight and eat a healthier diet to wear my favorite clothing (I'm a size 4 trying to get to 0) even though they are tight and you're not supposed to wear tight pants or else it will trap heat and cause yeast infections. I've been keeping myself busy with activities and going out. My whole attitude and mood has changed for the positive. Before I was depressed and stressed, perhaps due to my relationship with my ex. So, life is lovely, but I'm hoping to get rid of this hindrance. Then, life will be great.

Exclamation Re: At the end of my rope! Yeast Infections.

My heart goes out to all of you.I have frequent yeast infections, since my 1st pregnancy 13 years ago....this last pregnancy (3 years ago)really did me in, I had BV for over a year, and now chronic yeast, I guess I could start eating the right foods...(help me with this one...plz!) I do take 2 AZO YEAST daily, and Acidillious. My GYNO said I will have vaginal problems until I stop sweating "down there".How can that happen??? Think about it...a dark murky cave, sleeping,(legs usually closed) sweating all the time....YIKES!!! What does sweat contain??? ACIDS...RIGHT???Body acids.Which would throw things off.Im a little heavy in the thigh department..so my "chub rub" makes it more enclosed at night. Its crazy!!! I just hope my daughter dosent expierence the same kind of problems when she gets older.Good luck~! Seriously, Im to the point, I dont even know what a "normal" discharge is.

Re: At the end of my rope! Yeast Infections.

I don't know if it has anything to do with sweating. After I take a shower, I make sure my area is dry down there by wiping it with Kleenex. My mother doesn't have this problem.

I suspect that the reason why, we women, are having these problems is because of the birth control use, antibiotic use, and being exposed to a STD. Once you have been exposed to an STD and used BCP (birth control pills) and antibiotics, your whole flora or makeup changes down there. Essentially, you've destroyed and abused your body with all the stuff you've been using. I've used all types of antibiotics for the past 10 years. I've used BCP for a long period of 6 years. Don't you think that these factors have attributed to our yeast infections as well as BV????????? Also, coupled with stress (relationship, job, children, bills, etc.)

I'm saddened to hear that babydawl's use of the boric acid didn't work. My heart goes out to her.

Right now, I'm waiting until my prescription for boric acid arrives. Kaiser didn't have it, so they had to order it. Yikes! Also, I'm waiting for the Terazol to be ready for pick-up. My gyn prescribed this to me for the symptoms of the yeast until the boric acid is ready for pick-up.

In the meantime, I will be continuing to eat yogurt. I think that's why I haven't had BV for 3 months now. YEAH!!!! In addition, I will be taking the Chewable Acidopholus w/ probiotics, the probiotic drink by ActiveDannon, cranberry pills, and multivitamins for women. Women need to populate their area down there with good bacteria because we've been killing it with antibiotic use and changing the makeup down there with BCP. Also, by taking probiotics, you will be able to make your immune system stronger. I think my immune system was weak from all the pill use and stress, therefore, making me susceptible to all these infections.

As for eating foods, I will continue to eat yogurt for breakfast (alternating with oatmeal), lunch will be whatever I make or a frozen dinner meal, and dinner will be salad or yogurt or cereal or smoothie (bananas, blueberries and non-fat plain yogurt) or whatever I make (either baked or boiled. I don't do a lot of frying).

As for stress, I'm being active now. Going out and doing things with friends. Got rid of the cheating boyfriend. Made a plan of what bills to pay first and when they will be paid off. Working overtime on the weekends to catch up so that the weekdays are a breeze. I do more relaxation techniques such as breathing and thinking positive.

I'll definitely give that a try. Is that something I could find at a place like GNC?

Hey, can yeast infections really have to do with the amount of years you were on BC pills?? I was on BC pills for like,12 years!! Then I did have Trich, and high in HPV cells, no to mention the whole year of BV! I too, havr the everyday stresses (3 kids, hubby goin to jail for DWI,money...y know.) Not to mention the struggle of wondering if my crotch will have a good day or not.I wipe dry my crotch too after a shower, but you do sweat down thee during the day also.Well, Anyways...let me know.K???Keep our chins up!!! for each other....Keep posting!!!! Re: At the end of my rope! Yeast Infections.

Your diet may be the cause. Yeast infections are fed by carbohydrates, sugars, yeast and fermented foods. Most people who have yeast infection don't realize they are feeding it on a daily basis. Do not eat cooked or fresh fruit with other food because it spoils and ferments in the stomach. Fresh fruit when eaten alone will not ferment. Carbohydrates will ferment if eaten with proteins.

In a nut shell avoid,Alcohol, Animal fats ,Caffeine ,Dairy products ,Fast foods ,Hydrogenated oils and margarine ,
Processed foods ,Junk foods ,Sugar ,White flour products .

Here is some info my doctor gave me :

A vaginal yeast infection is caused by an overgrowth of yeast organisms that normally live in small numbers in the vagina. Factors that encourage an excess growth of vaginal yeast include:

Using antibiotics.
Having high estrogen levels (hyperestrogenemia), such as during pregnancy, hormone replacement therapy (HRT or ERT) use, high-dose birth control pill use, and the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle.1
Having diabetes, especially if your blood sugars are not well controlled and tend to be high.
Having an impaired immune system.
Using corticosteroids, such as prednisone.
Being overweight.
Having the genital area exposed to moisture for a long period of time (for example, wearing a wet bathing suit all day) or living in a warm, humid climate.
Most yeast infections involve Candida albicans (C. albicans), a yeast that can be treated effectively with standard yeast infection medication. Recurrent vaginal yeast infections tend to involve nonĖC. albicans types of yeast, which are more resistant to the standard treatments for C. albicans yeast infections.

Re: At the end of my rope! Yeast Infections.

I'd like to thank everyone for all the advice and support. It's crazy that so many other women have this problem but in a strange way it gives me comfort to know I'm not alone in this.

I've still not heard a single thing from the specialist. So I'm assuming everything is normal with my immune system. A letter or something would be nice though!

And get this....now I have a UTI. This morning when I went to the bathroom there was a lot of blood in my urine. For the last two days I've been going to the bathroom a lot and it feels like someone blew up a balloon in my bladder. I feel a lot of pressure and discomfort. I know it's not that time of the month because I just had my period a week ago. I called off work today and I have a doctor's appointment at 2:30. I know they are going to give me antibiotics. Which means yeast infection land here I come....again.

I....am.....sooooooooooo tired of this. I swear I'd do a back hand spring if I could go two months without something getting infected down there. This is not helping my depression at ALL. I can't take this.
