Re: I think I have Cytolytic Vaginosis but my doctor doesn't even know what that is H

A few years ago i swore I had cytolytic vaginosis...but none of my doctors even knew what it was. I decided to douche with baking soda and water....and POOF...it was gone! Normal discharge! I had tears of joy.

Now.....for the past FIVE months, I have gone through an ordeal. First, thought it was yeast. Tried everything from Monostat-7, and 3, Diflucan (2 pills), boric acid (for 14 days), Flagyl (for 7 days), tea tree oil suppositories, acidopilis, garlic, and rePhresh. I was tested for all STDs....negative (well, for any new ones....I was already diagnosed with HSV-2, herpes, a couple of years ago....but that is not causing this!)

The doctor said my cultures were pretty normal....and he said "You have plenty of good bacteria....and I see SOME yeast." So thats when I did the Diflucan and boric acid (and boric acid is a total yeast killer!)

So then I decided that it must be CV! So i did the douching. Then the sitz baths (because I was worried about over-doing it with the douching...because thats SOOO bad and all).

I get some relief....but not completely like I did a few years ago.

As for doctor's to diagnose CV.....good luck. All the gynos I been too have either never heard of it or claim it doesn't exist. I know it does! I had it! I treated it! It went away for over 5 years!

My next course of action is to demand to see a gyno who is a specialist in infectious disease...at UC Davis Med Center (who is supposed to be one of the best hospitals in NorCal, but so far I am giving them a D in the customer service area).

My advice is to do the same at UCLA. Find a specialist....be dramatic and outspoken about your symptoms....and especially about how you know something is wrong...no matter how "normal" your cultures might be.

Good luck and keep me posted. Maybe if you find a cure, it will work for me!

Re: I think I have Cytolytic Vaginosis but my doctor doesn't even know what that is H

Well.......I am not sure I have CV.....but I am convinced it is not a yeast infection (because I've been to hell an back using all treatments to kill yeast). And from what I remember about CV....it feels the same. When I douche with the baking soda & water....it feels better....but doesn't completely go away. Maybe I am not using it enough.....

....or maybe I have something completely different. All I know is the doctors think I am crazy because my labs are normal. Even though I know it is NOT normal.

Anyway....here's what you do. Go to RITE AID! You're in SoCal....so I know there must be a Rite Aid or a Wal-Greens on every corner. You are going to look in the tampon/yeast cream isle and look for something called a "Travel Douche." Basically what it is, is a REUSABLE douche balloon. That's exactly what it looks like.....a pinkish rubber balloon with a twist-on & off insertion stem. Buy a couple boxes of baking soda (Arm & Hammer). The "supplies" should cost under $7 bucks.

Then go home and lock yourself in the bathroom. Rinse out the douche balloon in hot water just to make sure there's nothing "foreign" on it. Take a tablespoon, and pour a couple spoonfuls of the baking soda into the EMPTY balloon. I use 2-3 heaping spoonfuls. Then fill it with lukewarm water (because you don't want cold water in your kitty-kat!). Then go in the shower (while its off) and insert the douche inside you. Squeeze VERY SLOWLY AND VERY CAREFULLY!!!!! You don't want to put any real force into it, as douching can cause real damage (PID, etc.)...so go slowly so its just like a trickle coming out. If you can't get any of the water to come out...pull the insertion thing out a little bit.

ANd thats it. Rinse the douche balloon and insertion stick out very well to clean it....then lay it somewhere to dry.

Soon.....you should feel relief. They say to do this once every couple days until symptoms go away. Also, sitz baths are recommended more because its non-invasive as opposed to douching. A sitz bath is a few spoonfuls of baking soda in the bathtub with two inches of water. Sit in that for like 15 minutes "swishing" around.

Anyway....hope my detailed explanation helped. But keep in mind....if you DON'T have CV......and instead have a yeast infection....this will aggrevate the yeast and make it worse (because the baking soda lowers your pH....making your crotch a haven for yeast to grow). Its a gamble. I say do it....at least you'll know one way or another.

Good luck....let me know how it goes!

Re: I think I have Cytolytic Vaginosis but my doctor doesn't even know what that is H

Hi peachprincess and babydawl - I was just wondering if any treatment has worked for you? I have been experiencing symtpoms for months now, and I finally saw a doctor who did an advanced culture and said that I had heavy growth of lactobacillus. He said that after a couple of days, it was the only thing that he could see on the plate. So, I am convinced that I have CV. Please let me know what treatments if any helped, and also if you could explain to me what your symptoms were/are so that I could compare, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again for any help.
