Unhappy Recurrent BV

I have been having a BV problem since July of last year (2006) the only thing my doc prescirbed me was Flagyl. The symptoms would disappear while I was using the meds but right after I go off of my period all the symptoms return ( odor, irritation, and itching).I was tested for STD's and they all came back negative.I also read somewhere that there are two different kinds of BV one is the regular bacteria and the other is some sort of strep bacteria that can be caused by using Flagyl and certain vaginal gels used to treat BV. And Flagyl does not treat this kind of Strep BV. Does anyone know any more info about this if so PLEASE let me know. I have been miserable for almost the past year and just learned that recurrent and untreated BV can lead to PID (Pelvic Inlfammatory Disease) which causes sterility which I DO NOT WANT!!! Sorry this is so long I just need some answers. I am on the Pill and my boyfriend and I dont use protection so does his semen make my BV infection come back?

Seman can do it! It lowers your vaginal ph.I only know of 1 kind od BV,the kind that sucks! Nothing worked for me,there is a Gel Metrogel...but it causes yeast, as does Flagyl.I had it for over a year.the only thing that helped was rePHesh (Walmart) because it balances out your vaginal ph.In some other posts, some woman had long posts about douching with paroxide/water.I dunno.I wish you luck. I know it sucks!! Keep your chin up hun!!

I found out it was BV when I tried to use yeast infection creams several times and they didn't work. So I went to the doc and he said that it was BV.
