I spotted for four days from days 26 through 29. Now I am at day 31, and don't have my period yet. I have very irregular periods, so that is normal for me, but the spotting is not.
I have also had lower back, flank, abdominal and pelvic pain on the right side for 1 1/2 years that hasn't been diagnosed. Possibly endometriosis, but the doc seems to think not.
Any feedback or similar experience would be great. I'm a little freaked out because I've read spotting is a sign of uterine cancer. I'm 35, have two kids, have had irregular periods since going off the pill at 24. I also had trouble conceiving because of it.
Are you really thin? Once I had a very light period - like you have described - four or so days of spotting, but no real blood flow. It was because I was losing weight and was borderline underweight. Because of the loss of fat, my estrogen levels were low and my lining hadn't built up enough during the cycle, so there wasn't a lot of lining to lose when the period came. Just a thought.
It's a good idea to get the pain checked out - just to see what is there. An ultrasound is generally not good enough - you would probably need a laparoscopy. A gynaecologist or reproductive specialist should be able to do one for you. (It is surgery, if you don't know, so you will have to go to a hospital and be under anaethestic. It is generally only a short procedure though, and you can go home the same day).
You said you have irregular periods and fertility issues - do you have PCOS?
The other thing the bleeding could be is "mid-cycle" bleeding - because you said you have irregular cycles so perhaps it is a late attempt at ovulation from your body. Once I bled for 3 days mid-cycle over my "fertile phase" (late in the cycle because I have irregular cycles too) - it has got something to do with the hormonal imbalance that causes the irregular cycles.
I've been to many doctors over the past 1 1/2 years about my pain. I've been told I need antidepressents, had a normal abdominal u/s and normal pelvic u/s aside from a small cyst on the right, been told by another doc. that there is nothing wrong with me and to go home and play with my kids and enjoy my life. I've been told by another doc it may be kidney stones, and yet another that if it were kidney stones I wouldn't be there talking to him. My old OB found nothing, then another said it may be endometriosis, so he put me on the pill. The pill made me feel crummy and gain weight, so I went off after 2 cycles. I had a CTscan of the abdominal and pelvic area in Sept that was normal. My new GP said it's IBS and prescribed me antispasmodics. I doubted, and still doubt this diagnosis. Finally I went to yet another new OB-GYN, and he said it may be endometriosis or polysistic ovaries, but the polysistic ovaries didn't show up in my u/s or CTscan. He said I might possibley need the laprascopic exam, but to follow through with an apt I had set up with the GI doctor, which I actually had to cancel.
I e-mailed my OB-GYN on Monday about the spotting, and have heard nothing back. Maybe he's on vacation, I don't know.
