Hello,
I have been researching my constant vaginal itch for the millionth time on the net and came across this message board and was reading about babydawl and a few other women who share familiar and similar symptoms.
I have been suffering from this itch since 03'. I have seen a multitude of Doctor's and have been tested for yeast which they always presume when they look under the microscope and by a vaginal exam, the lab always comes back negative. I did boric acid for years because it was the only thing that helped. I have tried diflucan for months every few days, then once a week, then monthly, pro biotics (oral and vaginal), rephresh, azo, every yeast cream, yougurt, diet, yeast cleanses, tea tree, cortisone, estrogen, treated for seb. dermatitis, gentian violet, antibiotics for lactobacillious (overgrowth of the good bacteria) sitz baths, baking soda douches and doing nothing. I have had biopsies of the outer vaginal area and tested for lichen schlerosis, and they have ruled out vulvodynia. I have abstained from sex, I have a boyfriend and I even thought it was him, the last specialist said no. I have seen specialists, one of which is supposed to be a guru according to what his young fellow said and we only got in a disagreement about treatment because he didn't even look at my history and he told me to find a new Dr. He actually teaches at a Univerisity here and is an old guy and has been doing this for a long time so you would think he would have answers. He implied it was in my head and because I had a normal vaginal flora I must feel okay. I have taken tons of micro-biology classes and pre nursing so I feel that I have a little medical background and I know my body and I am not going crazy! I itch!
I used to have the same discharge, thick, white cheesy, dry vagina stuff. I have polycystic ovarian syndrome so I am insulin resistant and I take metformin a diabetic medication. I don't take the pill as advised by the Dr. which is fine, w/pcos it is really difficult to get preg anyhow, I don't have any children yet but fear I never will be able to because of this.
I recently was told that I had cytolytic vaginosis and so I have been doing the baking soda douches 2-3 times a week and it really helps. I recently stopped to be treated for lactobacillious and took an antibiotic, along with Diflucan, started eating yogurt again which I had given up w/the douches and it's back, though not in full effect, the discharge is white, kind of thicker but like gluey or something. I am going back to the douches until I can be seen at the Mayo clinic, I am working on getting the Ins. approved.
Babydawl I know your frustration, please share what the Dr. says, I am curious, your symptoms sound exactly like mine. I think that any of the women who share the same symptoms and have been having this trouble for years don't have a yeast infection. I think that we may all have the same something else possibly systemic, an allergy, or even some other type of problem that has never been diagnosed. Perhaps it is cytolytic vaginosis which evidently doesn't go away and is effected by hormones and the good bacteria, the douching really did help and I was able to decrease it to once a week, then sometimes not every week. There is not a lot about cytolytic vag. on the net, I have looked in some med. journals and is often confused with a yeast infection, symptoms are exactly the same type of discharge. I know that I went overboard on probiotics everyday and once I stopped it did improve. I have spent thousands trying to get better. This has to go away, I have always gotten itchy closer to my period ever since I was young but I am convinced that if I can find a Dr. to help in the research we will find an answer. I am working on this

I am super busy with school and work but persistance will help us to find answers.
